Jon Rothstein reports that Georgetown and Maryland have agreed to play regular season contests for four years, beginning in 2025-2026. Capital One will be the site for the 2026-2027 and 2028-2029 games, with Maryland hosting at Xfinity Center in 2025-2026 and 2027-2028.

Would be really nice to round out some regional scheduling agreements to complement. Would love to see: UNC, Duke, Wake, NC State, UVA, Pitt, WVU as well
If we can start to field competent teams, it feels like we could develop more cross BE-ACC regional rivalries to pair with conference, particularly if we’re committed to recruiting North Carolina as seems to be the case.

This is great for non-conference scheduling. Especially with the OOC Big 10/12 games falling off the schedule, we need to backfill with similar types of games. I do realize that part of this matchup in particular is (a) the geography/historical rivalry and (b) Cooley and Willard being friends, but it's still a good scheduling sign. One of the few signs under Cooley so far that Georgetown is willing to take on challenges out of conference voluntarily (the Big 10/12 games were not voluntary).

Some things (all of this is paraphrasing): - Cooley said the program wasn't where he wanted it to be this past year. - Willard and Cooley think highly of each other. - Both coaches want the DMV community to have the Maryland/Georgetown game. - They wanted to do the game in early November to kick off the season. What's it like to coach against Willard? - Cooley thinks he's one of the best in sideline plays, end of game. - Will recruit against one another each year. Separate business and personal friendship. Have love for Willard and respect, and for lives he's changed. What's it like to coach against Cooley? - Willard says it's not many times you get the first coaching job and going against each other and trying to learn. - Remember I picked Ed's brain, and how much he has helped me even being at Seton Hall. - Ed Cooley will always pick up the phone and be there for you. - We probably had best 14 days in Peru for Pan American games, got to see him eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in his underwear on his bed as we tried to scout Spain. He truly became a brother. Saw how good he was at scouting, in game adjustments. Ed is one of the best in the business. Lucky to call him a friend. Asked Cooley about the peanut butter and jelly story: - Yes in Peru, some of the best coffee we had - we are both coffee savants. We are spoiled and went into village living. 10 of us in 5 by 5 suite - what a great experience. - Being able to pick his brain, we had a great team of coaches going against second best world championship team, Argentina lost in gold medal game that year. - We were exhausted by the time we got home. Cooley - at end of day, basketball has been a gift to me. Build up to the game will help everyone, and restore a tradition, some energy. I am very fortunate to be in this seat and have the relationship I have with Kevin and his staff. Always will cheer for Kevin. Willard - I know where Ed is going to get Georgetown, I know how good of a program he will get that to be. It will be something, with our unbelieveable traditions, something this area will look forward to every year. Probably long overdue and that's okay, glad we are getting it going.

We may have something to gain from this over the long run, but right now we're not very good as a program. MD is still decent with a fan base 10X bigger than ours. I have a hard time seeing this as fun.

I have a hard time seeing this as fun. Any out of conference game that prevents us from playing 300 level teams is good with me. Also, the hope is we will be better, of course.
