Hot dogs are better over there?? LOL. It’s likely the same vendors will make the move with them.

For those of us coming from out of DC anyone have suggestions as to best way to get there? And will there be parking available? Coming from Frederick. Looks like Beltway to Georgia Avenue is quickest. Really hate driving the Beltway and dealing with Georgia Avenue traffic.

No Kenner, no problem. Boys, keep doing your S&C, using the shooting machines every day and practicing defense! That’s how you improve.

No Kenner, no problem. Boys, keep doing your S&C, using the shooting machines every day and practicing defense! That’s how you improve. There are some real headwinds facing summer leagues-- some of it the changes in the game, some of which is the schools themselves. John Thompson helped found the Kenner League because, in part, he did not trust his players in the Urban Coalition and the periphery of street ballers, hangers-on and agents which had begun to hang around inner city basketball in the early 1980s. The Georgetown kids could enroll in the Community Scholars program for credit courses and play at McD on the weekends---all within the view of the big man on the 2nd floor. It also allowed GU and other local teams a de facto practice opportunity when NCAA rules did not allow teams to come together for practices until Midnight Madness in mid-October. The subsequent NCAA changes which restricted where and when these games are played and ended teams that were comprised of largely one school (e.g., the GU freshmen playing for The Tombs) saw fewer local players compete as they once did and the kids living in DC but attending out of town schools went elsewhere. Secondarily, now that the NCAA has backed off the no-practice rules in favor of the loosely defined S&C summer sessions, kids are practicing at their schools from the get-go, so a weekend schedule to play basketball isn't as impactful, and the local kids playing at Villanova or Duke are not going to stay in town to begin with. Though it's not said in as many words, I don't think Kenner means that much to college coaches anymore, including Georgetown. As fans, it carries more weight as a tradition and literally the only opportunity to see players in person before the season starts, as the basketball office seems resolute in avoiding exhibition games which are popular elsewhere. Georgetown hasn't hosted an exhibition game in over 20 years.

Any word if there were games yesterday? Kenner League Elon account has been pretty inactive. Weird they would announce a venue change, the Quashie guys would post about Hoya players being involved and there be no games. Although Ron’s article made it sound like the whole thing might be gone in short order …

I called the number listed on KennerLeague.com yesterday (seems to have since been removed), and the guy on the other end mentioned no games this weekend. I asked about schedule / whether the plan was still to play games at Howard, and he was non-committal -- only saying "we'll post an update on social media soon".
Here's to hoping they figure something out quickly.
