This team is going to have a lot of options on defense.

What?! …”he's listed as a guard on the team's official roster, at 6-9”…

What?! …”he's listed as a guard on the team's official roster, at 6-9”…He is super-athletic. I think he has also been listed as a SF. Kentucky used him as a reserve 4, and 4 is where I expect we will see him. That he wants to play such great defense is great news for us.

He is a rare player that is athletic enough to guard 4 positions, and potentially 5 against a team that plays a smallball 5

I thought I read that Kentucky had used him as a reserve post when the three bigs were all out and then seldom thereafter. My understanding is that his wingspan enabled him to play post and the real issue there may be his slight frame against bigger stronger posts.

Not to put myself in a position to be accused of being anything resembling positive here lol. Wasn’t Gillespie at nova not even ranked? They wouldn’t have taken Burks just to fill out a roster spot without seeing some serious contributing potential. On the defensive end he seems like he can be huge, excited to watch him play

On the defensive end he seems like he can be huge, excited to watch him play It is entirely possible we are desperate and he's more Massoud than anything. I mean, in a vacuum, where we don't look at any other information. But watching his tape, he's clearly much more physically gifted and athletic. He's seems like a great kid, and he's committed to defense. And while he didn't play a lot last year, his rate stats are good when he did. Dontrez Styles played just as little at UNC and had far worse rate stats, and he was a pretty good player for us. And if Massoud had shot 40% from 3, I'd be far more worried that Burks' offense can't measure up ... but Massoud was a negative on offense and defense. I just find it hard watching this guy to think he's not an upgrade. Big question will be how much? The big number for all our bigs, including Jordan, who is more of a unique player, is that everyone we've looked at and Fielder and most freshmen have a real issue with fouls committed. That's something that needs to improve or we'll be sending everyone to the free throw line.

Burks looks like he is oozing potential ... it's about time we had someone explode onto the scene ...
