"CHRIS HOLTMANN, DEPAUL
Projected starting lineup:
G Layden Blocker
G Jacob Meyer
Wing Isaiah Rivera
Wing JJ Traynor
C David Skogman
Top bench options: G Conor Enright, Wing Troy D'Amico, F NJ Benson, G CJ Gunn, G David Thomas
Best transfer moves so far: When you inherit the worst high-major program in the country, you might have to take some big swings to transform a roster. DePaul taking a shot on Arkansas transfer Layden Blocker is far from a risk. The former top-60 product played at least 20 minutes in nine games as a freshman at Arkansas this past season. He took multiple trips to the foul line in seven of those nine games. The 6-foot-2 lead guard should be a menacing defender and a walking paint touch for DePaul next season. And free throws. A whole lot of free throws.
What's next on the recruiting trail: Needless to say, Chris Holtmann and his staff have their work cut out for them if they are going to make the Blue Demons relevant again. When it comes to high school recruiting, we would expect that Holtmann and his staff focus on the Midwest where their staff has the strongest connections. Ian Miletic is a rapidly rising local wing in 2025 who just so happens to play grassroots ball for assistant Bryan Mullins' father, so there are some connections there.
Another local to keep a close eye on is floor-stretching big man Aleks Alston. Some of the other more notable recent offers include Azavier Robinson, forwards Damon Friery and Brady Koehler and big man Kai Rogers just to name a few. Landing top-tier prospects in year one will be tough, but if they can identify players in the top-100 to top-150 range and from the fringes of the national rankings with upside, they can inject some talent. Unlike other places that can simply outspend, they'll need to out-evaluate other staffs."
