Hammond is shorter than 6’ but I believe his team won the Peach Jam and the WCAC. He is a winner and can play. He is unselfish and can be a problem defensively for opponents….seems to be a super-quick type. If he is willing to have a backup role, he is a great add though some may prefer more experience on the bench.

Beautiful to see the Mack commitment affirmed (seems like nothing is real in CBB until Tipton posts it). Obviously we are also in the hunt for a rim protector, with Cliff Omoruyi perhaps our top target. And we have a newfound alliance with Team Takeover, while hopefully achieving at least detente with Team Durant.
Once we find a center, assuming nobody else breaks for the portal in the meantime—no guarantee of that, clearly—that would leave us with a roster of: Guards: Mack, Epps, Mulready, Guard TBD (Ben Hammond?) Wings: Peavy, McKenna, Fielder, Williams Bigs: Center TBD, [edit] Sorber, Cook, Mutombo??
Where are the remaining gaps? [deleted, transfer speculation] If Cliff O turns down our NIL bag, what other big men could we target/are we targeting? Is Hammond the right fit assuming he’d want to stick with Kenny J?

I am guessing you see 2 bigs and we leave one scholly open just in case.

My dream 2 to wrap up portal would be Matt Cross from UMass and Cliff O. from Rutgers, but agree if we can get a Greg M. type 3 and an athletic rim protecting big, I would sign up for that too.

Where are the remaining gaps? If we get a rim protector, shooting.

You are missing Sorber in that equation.

Big whiff on Sorber, edited accordingly.
Are we onto anyone in the portal who can help us from 3?

Big whiff on Sorber, edited accordingly. Are we onto anyone in the portal who can help us from 3? Matt Cross. He wasn't great from 3 last year - around 33% - but he can shoot it, is a great rebounder and all around just tough as nails competitor on the court. Has a long list of pursuers.

It gets very, very tricky from here. You're now at a point where you of course want to upgrade, but you have at least one guy at each spot that you are either already happy with or think you can be very happy in a year or two if they stick around and develop. So signing virtually anyone may well lead an existing piece to leave.

He is quick and fast and passes quote well when there are open lanes he is a poke out defender and jump the passing lanes defender, but on man he is at a deep loss. A great fit for a VCU or Richmond Spiders. Could be a decent back-up for a few yeras, much like Bynum who was a project who had very similar skills. Plays really well in transition, but the size is a bit of an problem in half court heavy play that is a Big East norm.

I don't disagree that additional moves might have implications with the current roster, but hopefully good communication between the staff and the players keeps everyone informed and on the same page. I realize that the entire landscape of college basketball has changed over the last few years, but hopefully you can find a few players that still have a team first mentality and want what is best for the team and not just for them personally. I hope those conversations are going on now wit the players on the roster
