Loved how the guys played tonight. Epps played more under control though he had some hero ball moments. I hope whoever we land can be a ballhandler because today with Brumbaugh doing most of the bringing the ball up he is way more effective and it at least promotes more than 2 passes before a shot. Rather than having him dribble at the top for 7 secs trying to come off the pick and roll.

I don’t care how many points he scored tonight, I would be very happy not to have Epps on the team next season.

I feel for both Cooley and Pitino. Both great coaches, but you cannot coach in the environment they have today. A majority of the blame should be placed on the President of GU. The only way to get their attention is to cut their donations from Alumni. I will do so and hope other alumni will do the same. You cannot stand by quietly while Rome burns.Add to this the lack of planning for an on-campus arena which could easily fit on the Rosslyn Key Bridge site is appalling. Time to ask for the GU President's resignation. Like Trump and Biden he has lost touch.

Time to ask for the GU President's resignation. Like Trump and Biden he has lost touch. Your comments are not grounded in reality. 1. Of course Cooley and Pitino can coach. Neither have the level of player experience necessary to compete. 2. Alumni giving does not drive the revenues for men's basketball, Fox Sports does. If giving went to $0 it would not materially change this dynamic. 3. Georgetown does not own, never has, nor has it has an opportunity to purchase, the Key Bridge Marriott. It is owned by a REIT that has stopped paying taxes on the land. The legal machinations to release the land take years. This assumes that Georgetown a) could buy the land, b)has $200 million from its $1.5 billion budget with which to develop the land, which it does not, c) that it was zoned appropriately for an evebnt complex, which it is not and d) that Arlington County really wants another arena with no parking four miles from the Leonsis Family Arena & Casino. It's a non-starter. 4. Jack DeGioia is not the basketball coach, he's the CEO. CEO's hire people to run programs, but due to a previously discussed wormhole in the GU bureaucracy, Lee Reed does not oversee the program. Jack can't act without the Board and they're not leaving either. Too bad there is not this much interest and concern every fall.

Attendance was 4,839? I mean, my god. What are we even doing at this point? What a mess.

Added a great new coach, with some players he thought good. Maybe we need to cut off the head of the dinosaur DeGoia. Goes to the top methinks. Again, the players got in a deep hole and never came back, but played with vigor. It is up top with the BB program where vigor is lacking. Looking forward to the DePaul game where we have a real chance on the road. Sheesh, this is ugly.

I don’t consider a game in which we gave up 90 points to a crappy team to be a good moral victory.

Long stretches of this game reminded me of some of the Morgan State games from the 1980s-90s. And tonight we played the role of Morgan State.
In all seriousness, in a completely gonzo season, I liked a lot of the character shown tonight and our guys standing up to a physical St. John’s team that wanted to mix it up with us. We stood tall and made it a game (sort of).
To the comments of this being a good team effort, I disagree. Our effort and ability to defend is among the worst in the nation. Same old same old tonight. So many easy buckets allowed.
And we did nothing to improve our 489th out of 340 teams ranking in making shots at the rim. Holy jeebus we miss a lot of shots 5 feet and in. It’s astounding, really.

Overall, the effort was ok. Defensively, this team is an absolute disaster. Easily the worst defensive team I have seen in my 40+ years being a fan. Last in the league in fg% offense and defense. During the current 11 game losing streak, the team has allowed opponents to shoot over 50% 9 times, with a handful being over 60%. Ed needs a complete overhaul in terms of talent and defensive philosophy.

I don't understand how a lot of these reporters go about their jobs, Gtown is on an 11 game losing streak that has seen a bunch of slow starts. Cooley gets asked what changed that allowed them to get back in the game, his answer is just "will & want to" To me that begs the next question to be "Why do you think they didn't have the urgency from the start?" The next question is about Epps hurting his foot. smh... No follow ups when Cooley talks about the defense either. Skip to 17:16 if you don't want to listen to Pitino talk for 15 minutes www.youtube.com/live/1hyTes022Q8?si=3fTTzFMR3s8sjKWM

I don’t care how many points he scored tonight, I would be very happy not to have Epps on the team next season. I understand but disagree with this. I think with more talent, it will be easier to get him to defer. Right now you can't even afford to put him on the bench when he makes a dumb play. He is only a sophomore and his bad habits can still be coached out. THe lack of depth this year hurt the ability to do that. His end of game chuck vs. taking the 2 was dumb. His live ball turnover when we were making a run was a killer. On the plus side he was getting to the rim most of the night. I like Epps long term and we need retention. He also needs to learn how to play defense. He can't be as slow on D as he showed last night on a few occasions. That to me is more "want" vs. ability. Hard to coach the "want". When he sees everybody who he aspires to be getting paid in the league plays both sides of the ball, he may get it.

There are some good sports reporters out there, but they are few and far between. This is generally true across all sports, but even worse for college basketball since there are so many different teams and so the talent pool is widely dispersed. I know coaches get crap sometimes because they don’t answer questions with probing answers, but the journalists often don’t ask the questions that should be asked or they just don’t follow up. But with college sports it’s a really delicate balance too. As a journalist, you want access so your incentive to probe and ask tough questions is inherently limited. After all, it’s easy to cut journalist access, in which case you cannot ask any questions at all. My feeling is the John Thompson Jr., Ronny, Ewing regime didn’t like reporters that did that—at least when things are tough (it’s easy when things are good because you don’t have to ask tough questions). How Cooley and his staff and media staff handle this is an open question.

I was happy to see Rowan and Drew get more minutes last night. Rowan seems to be gaining confidence and is playing much better and I see that improvement continuing with more time and then an off season of strength and conditioning. For a few weeks I was not sure what had happened with him, because his playing time had really dropped and his play suffered, but I see him as a helpful piece for the next few years.
I do see Drew improving and being more active, but he really needs a year of strength and conditioning and work on his lateral quickness to be able to compete at the Big East level, and I think he can get there, but right now he just fouls way too much. Hopefully with more minutes he can see clearly what he needs to work on and improve and that helps build his confidence. I think his inside/out skill set sets him up to be an effective stretch 4 if he can make those athletic improvements.

The Pitino comments about his guys vs the Hall could've been directed at Fielder as well. Lateral quickness is just a huge weakness - and as you pointed out, it leads to bad positioning and lots of fouls. He also just doesn't have enough upper body strength to hold position in the post or set meaningful screens. It's been reported that knee tendinitis has inhibited the S and C staff from really making much advancements in those areas this year. Hopefully a healthy offseason and some wight room and agility drill dedication could lead to major strides.

Wish them well, but the Jay Heath an Ismael Massoud eras need to be retired. They are not the future. Agreed. I thought Massoud gave us a real shot in the arm when he came off of injury earlier this year. But very quick fade.
