You would think Providence fans would be storming this board this week with all their anger at losing Cooley. Instead they are horrified to realize that hoyaboya already took all there ammunition and there’s nothing they can say that Boya hasn’t already said times 100 over the last 10 years on this board. When you face Boya in practice everyday, then real confrontations against opposing fans are a piece of cake.

A fair amount of our board keeps an eye, but right now we’re fighting amongst ourselves about how inappropriate the fans can be on Saturday.

Sadly I will not be there Saturday. Aside from the tickets set aside for the program and family, PC only made the last couple rows in one of the corner sections of The Dump available to Georgetown for the bargain price of $200 each. No sale.

I didn’t get a chance to read the entire article but here’s a summary of what I read. The gist of the story follows along with what Cooley has stated many times which is that he left for family reasons. The article points out that his wife wanted out of the fish bowl for sure but in many ways he did too. The article spoke of the pressure he felt from from family and friends to help the out and how that wore on him ect..

A fair amount of our board keeps an eye, but right now we’re fighting amongst ourselves about how inappropriate the fans can be on Saturday. All class, those fans are. There are two camps: those who are furious at Ed and want to let loose, and those who are mad at Ed but don’t want to see the school / fanbase embarrass themselves. PC is taking precautions, including having cameras installed in the student section, along with emails reminding them of how folks should conduct themselves. I think it’s going to be fine, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit nervous. There are a lot of angry folks, and the city has a natural chip on its shoulder. I wasn’t a huge fan of Divine Providence but it made the point that we’re one of the smallest schools in the Power 6, in the smallest state in the Union. Folks have developed that rabid attitude out of that. Obviously doesn’t condone any out of like behavior, but there’s some real raw emotions in Providence. Guy builds you up, says he’s going to stay forever, and then after the Louisville thing he jumps ship to a conference rival. Then it comes out that he was negotiating the move during the tournament? Course there’s going to be negativity, wouldn’t you be upset?

Course there’s going to be negativity, wouldn’t you be upset? I do totally understand the negativity. If I were a Providence fan, I'd be annoyed too. I just think that if students/fans act like idiots or beclown themselves, it makes them look immature and petty, while at the same time making Cooley look like a victim. I have no problem with fans booing Cooley, shouting, whatever. But I would leave it there. Having 18 year olds chanting "F Ed Cooley," or whatever nonsense they've already done at other games makes them look like idiots. Again, all of this is because Ed Cooley had success, greatly increased Providence's profile, and fans wanted him to stay. If he wasn't a good coach, nobody would care. Instead, they care so much that people put out 77 minute documentaries. So I have no problem with fans venting and getting their anger out, as long as it's done in a decent way. I really think a lot of it depends on the tenor of the game, too. I doubt it would have much of an impact any way, but if the fans are all over Cooley with chants, etc., if anything that's going to motivate Georgetown's players to shut them up by beating them. So, other than fans feeling good about venting, I see no real benefit to the antics some are predicting.

Such actions could cause them to leave at the end of the season for some other school or Georgetown. They could site the inappropriate atmosphere and climate at Providence as a reason for leaving and getting immediate waiver to play. Really Theres nothing to gain by crossing the line and Providence risks losing quite a bit.

Waivers aren't likely to be a thing since the year in residence is probably going to be thrown out by the courts. If anyone wants to leave at the end of the year, they'll probably be able to do that without any restrictions.

I get the reasons for Hopkins & Carter but what about Pierre or Castro? Or the Berry who transferred to Temple?

Or the Berry who transferred to Temple? What about them? None of them are difference makers who would have affected the course of this season whatsoever and none of them played very much under Cooley. We took Providence's entire staff with us. We took Fielder. We tried to take Dual. Why's this "legit to ask"?
