Beautiful day for soccer on the Hilltop. I expect a real war - neither side is used to being in a 4-5 game and feels like they have a lot to prove to live up to the standards of their program.

Hoyas score the only goal of the match on a beautiful sequence right as time expired in the first half. After *lengthy* review, the goal is upheld.
Creighton asked a lot of questions, but did not get too many shots on goal - tons of blocks by Hoya players. A spirited contest, and Brian's substitution patterns were quite clever, using the team's depth to really run Creighton ragged. They were *gassed* by the end.
Great game, great win.

What is the story with attendance this year? Just 987 for this game in perfect weather. Is student interest down or the ticket prices a deterrent to the general public?

Everyone's depressed about the election and sulking at home. Ok, I'm kidding...mostly...sorta... By way of comparison, the attendance for last year's first round Tournament tilt with Seton Hall is listed on the box score as 0 (bang up job by the AD, as usual). That was the first year of the current format triggered by the addition of Akron. The last Big East Tournament game at Shaw before that was the 2021 title game against Providence (on a Sunday), which also has a listed attendance of 0. So was the turnout today more or less than in the past? I have no idea! A thousand people feels about right. *shrug* It's DC, lots of stuff going on, and it's a first-round game, so no trophy to be awarded. |
