He is from Atlanta. His family, and his father who has an essentially incurable illness, live there. What more motivation should he need. Thanks Dan. I wasn't aware of the family situation. Still surprised he opted for a major D1 school rather than a smaller college in the Atlanta area. Morehouse is a D2 school athletically and Ryan could have gotten lots of pt. Perhaps only G tech offered the grad degree he was looking for. What a shock. A student athlete who takes his college education seriously. Dikembe has glioblastoma and has not made any public appearances since the diagnosis and surgery were announced in October 2022. The family has been understandably private about what is generally a grave situation. As for Ryan, he is clearly a very intelligent guy and I respect and admire his ability to succeed and graduate from Georgetown in 3 years despite all of this.

Damon Stoudmaire is the new coach at Georgia Tech after Partner was let go. Both Deke and Mutombo played a long time in the NBA so there’s at least a familiarly if not friendship that will be good for Ryan. Either way, congrats to playing for another great school with a strong basketball tradition.

Great outcome for Ryan. And prayers to the family.

He might not have gotten much run here, but I don't think he's a D2 or D3 (Emory) player. And as noted, Georgia Tech is a really good school that probably has a lot more grad-program options than some others in the Atlanta area.

Seems like a practical and intelligent move for Ryan. I wish him and his family the best.
