Base on how things are going in our hunt for a center—and our failure to do so—this may have given Mutombo new life. What do you think?

I dont think Cooley would play Ryan if 8 players fouled out or got injured.

From his Instagram. This makes a ton of sense so he can be close to family.

Good for Ryan.
A wonderful student-athlete.

I usually echo 'vad's Dead To Me sentiment for players who leave. But I will be rooting for Ryan, an outstanding example of a student athlete who will do incredible things off the court.

This place will implode if he emerges as a double-double guy in the ACC. In all seriousness, though, I'm happy for him.

I'm confused. Why would Ryan transfer to another High D1 program if he wasn't promised significant playing time? Does he just enjoy sitting on the bench? But why would a major D1 program make such a promise to a guy who wasn't considered good enough to get pt on a team that desperately needed a big man? Like many of you on this Board I'm going to be watching G. Tech basketball very closely next year to see how this plays out.

His family, and his father who has an essentially incurable illness, live there. What more motivation should he need.

TBH seems like an easy decision for Ryan. Hope it goes well for him, excellent school, close to family, getting to play in ACC would be fun at Duke, UNC etc.

He graduated, and wants to go home and be close to family, for obvious reasons. You better install a special bench camera if you want to see how this plays out.

Lost in all the misery of the past several years is the fact that the Hoyas have had some "class acts" on this team who were never a distraction and served as the model of what student athlete used to mean. Ryan is at the top of that list. Not easy to sit on the bench year after year and stay positive, but I never saw his head down and he was always on his feet cheering for teammates.

I'll be cheering the kid on. Listen, it is really tough to go to a place that your dad was a legend at. We had Williams, Ewing, Mourning & Mutombo's kids all come to Gtown at some point in their careers. Williams was a walk on. Ewing went to IU first and then was a big part of our success in the late 2000's, Mourning was part of some average teams and played minutes and Mutombo was a top 100 recruit but was part of bad teams and never panned out. All got degrees I believe and should be commended for their efforts on campus.
There was no way any of them could live up to the family name on the court but all of them contributed something to the school. People are overanalyzing all of this (as per usual). Good luck Ryan!

Hayes and Mourning; great teammates and attitudes and first ones off of the bench to greet players. May not be pro material but will succeed at life in general. Love the underdogs.

Still surprised he opted for a major D1 school rather than a smaller college in the Atlanta area. Morehouse is a D2 school athletically and Ryan could have gotten lots of pt. Perhaps only G tech offered the grad degree he was looking for. What a shock. A student athlete who takes his college education seriously.

Brilliant move by Georgia Tech to bring in a local whose family has the potential to be major benefactors to the university, the development department has to be doing backflips with this news.
