Now that we are officially done with the OOC schedule, the BE grind begins. Back in October my original thinking was 8-3 then 7-13 in the BE for a 15-16 season. Given what we’ve seen thus far, if I had to re-project I think we are looking more like 5-15 or 6-14 in conference play.
Cautiously optimistic that we’ll beat DePaul twice and then find a way to split with Butler, Seton Hall, and Xavier. Cant see us competing with UConn, Marquette, Creighton, or even Nova. PC and St John’s I think are unlikely, but the only other possibility to get another win. I really can’t see a scenario beyond 6 wins.
If we do go 6-14 and win a Weds game at MSG, I think that’ll be an acceptable result for Year 1 of the rebuild. Anything less I’d call a let down.

Conference wide I’d say
1.) UConn 16-4 2.) Marquette 15-5 3.) Creighton 13-7 4.) Villanova 12-8 5.) St John’s 11-9 6.) Butler 10-10 7.) PC 10-10 8.) Seton Hall 8-12 9.) Xavier 8-12 10.) Gtown 6-14 11.) DePaul 1-19

As you have seen we can stay in games when we shoot the 3 well. That's gonna happen against one of those teams you think we can't compete with and we will win a couple of those. I have no real guess I still think we get 7 to 8 wins.

They’re just as inconsistent, and probably less cohesive of a group at this point.

6-14 feels right for the baseline O/U. Anything under and I'd be disappointed. Anything more and I'd be very pleased.
We won 2 BE games in the last 2 years. If we can more than 3X that in Year 1 under EC, I'd consider that objective substantial progress.

I'm getting 4-5 win vibes based on early season performance. Moving in the right direction, but a tough sled this season.

8-12 is the ceiling. Xavier already has losses to Oakland & Delaware. Seton Hall doesn't really have a bad loss. Nova has lost to Penn, Drexel and St. Joes. St. Johns lost to Dayton & BC. Marquette was in a really tight one with St. THomas. Creighton lost to UNLV.
Furthermore, we aren't what we will be. Cooley's teams historically had some bad L's early in the year at Providence. We have all new pieces and for once, I am confident in the coaching staff to make us improve during the course of the year at a faster rate than our opponents. We used to see this in the early JTIII years. I think we will keep improving and be right around .500. That would be a fantastic year one.
The floor is probably 4-16. I just think we will have a lot more fight then to let that happen.
