Some of you may know Joe Sweeney from Georgetown games. Or some may have known him from his long service in the hospitality industry in the DC area. I have known Joe since I first met him in Tucson, Arizona at the NCAAT in 1991 and have had the pleasure of having beers with him pre-gaming at Clyde's many times. A very nice guy who is going through some very tough times. If you know Joe (or even if you don't) please think about contributing to his daughter's fundraiser for his final trip to see his daughter and grandchildren. hopefundme.com/help-our-friend-joe-sweeney-he-needs-us-now/?fbclid=IwAR3NDN1Nl4q7nlPitkExpIKCS8kguK4flDtYkS_NIG65rM-8hnqFU1rBjUA

The last note from Joe's daughter:
Dear friends,
As many of you know already, Joe passed away late in the night on Sunday November the 12th. Because of your generous support, I was able to care for him during his final month, bring him to Idaho to be with his grandchildren, and receive tender, competent care in a quality nursing center. Your abundance in giving also allowed me to continue taking time off work and be present with Dad during his death, which was an enormous gift to both of us.
Many of you have called expressing your sadness about not knowing, and being unable to say goodbye. Dad’s precipitous decline was unexpected and tragic, I am certain that he was not aware until this last month just how precipitous it would be... May Joe’s death be a firm reminder to stay present with the loved ones in your lives-- a cheer to have courage, and to make the awkward phone call, or say the missing (or extra) ‘I love you.’ Or to simply send a warm smile to a stranger.
If you would like to stay in touch please feel free to contact me here, or by phone or email. I will let you know as soon as plans for a DC area memorial service are made. If you would like to be involved in planning, please reach out.
This platform limits the number of times I can reach out to you individually to thank you. THANK YOU, each and every one of you, for your kind words, your care, and your gift to my dad and me.
Thank you, and I wish you all the warmth and love of the season for you and yours.
Erin
