A supremely great coach who always held a sincere personal and professional respect for John Thompson and the Georgetown Hoyas. As Dan Wetzel at Yahoo Sports pointed out, "You could say a lot of things about Bob Knight, but never that he cheated. He considered those who did to be weak and fraudulent. If anything he took it to anticompetitive levels — at [Texas] Tech, for example, he dismantled a (NCAA legal) hostess system where female students gave recruits campus tours because he didn’t like what it suggested. He often told his assistants that the fun of the job wasn’t in cheating to get recruits, it was beating the teams that cheated to get recruits." sports.yahoo.com/coaching-legend-bob-knight-famous-for-both-victories-and-outbursts-dies-at-83-223223902.html

Fond memories of running into Knight, Coach Thompson and John Duren talking during a break in the NABC meeting in the lobby of the Walsh building. Really genuine guy who just loved coaching. A good friend (who is also a physician) had the opportunity to care for him when was ill at Texas Tech: Knight asked about his HS age son who played hoops, and asked my friend to bring his son over for some 1 on 1 coaching at the arena in Lubbock as a surprise. Fonder memories of Eric Floyd torching his Hoosiers at the Cap Center when he was a freshman.

Classic Knight: picked his nose and put it under his armpit. RIP

For all of the controversy around Knight, and there was plenty, he won big, did not cheat, and his players, by and large, seemed to love him.
A coaching Triple Crown in my book.
Throw in his profound distaste for the media and he is one of my all time favorites.
