GOP says Puerto Rico âisland of garbageâ quip doesnât reflect the party. It does. A comedianâs quip Sunday at Madison Square Garden that Puerto Rico is an âisland of garbageâ has led to something rarely seen in the Trump era: the Republican Party â and even the Donald Trump campaign itself â backing away from the divisive content of a Trump rally. The reaction from Florida Republicans and Trumpâs campaign suggests they see at least some real danger in a remark that could alienate a significant swath of the electorate. Repeatedly, they said that this didnât âreflectâ them. âThis rhetoric does not reflect GOP values,â said Rep. MarĂa Elvira Salazar (R-Florida), who called comedian Tony Hinchcliffeâs comment âracist.â Rep. Carlos GimĂ©nez (R-Florida) said Hinchcliffe âdefinitely doesnât reflect my values or those of the Republican Party.â The Trump campaign added that the remark âdoes not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.â The thing is, though, it actually kind of does. The MAGA movement and the Republican Party have long been hurtling toward such a moment, with little internal pushback. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/10/28/republicans-say-puerto-rico-island-garbage-quip-doesnt-reflect-them-it-does/

What else would you expect from Traitor Cruz? And I expect he will still be reelected.

Average Americans stand so much to lose if Trump is elected, from affordable healthcare to government protection of consumers to an approach that addresses the increasingly obvious impact of climate change, that I cannot believe so many people think that he cares about them. The greatest con Trump has ever pulled, and heâs pulled so, so many, is to convince Americans that he can make their lives better. If he wins, a lot of people who voted for him will certainly regret it, especially when he crashes the economy as Elon Musk has acknowledged he will. Again, how is this even close?

MAGA GOPers, radical nihilists. Conservative groupâs âwatch listâ targets federal employees for firing An organization funded by the conservative Heritage Foundation has compiled an online âwatch listâ of federal employees it claims cannot be trusted to secure the U.S. border and should be fired, a sign that supporters of Donald Trumpâs immigration policies are preparing to help him neutralize the administrative state they believe tried to thwart his first presidency. The âDHS Bureaucrat Watch Listâ â a website unveiled in the final weeks of a presidential campaign in which immigration is a key issue â names 51 federal policy experts and high-ranking leaders, the majority of whom are career civil servants at the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies. The group identified them largely using public social media comments, prior work experience and campaign finance records. www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2024/11/02/federal-career-employees-watchlist-trump/
