From my email to Lee Reed Dear Lee – Congratulations on a great hire. I am both excited and optimistic and will be increasing my hoop club donation back to former levels. Having said that, might we invest in somebody to proof read our press releases? Getting a new coaches won/lost record seems kind of fundamental to communicating the hire. Go Hoyas!!!!! Chris. coach's

Over the last 12 seasons at Providence College, Cooley has posted a 242-53 (.820) record The Ewing era is over, the -123- fireballs era reigns eternal.

Wanted Pitino and a clean break from the Thompsons. But we could have done a lot worse. A LOT worse.
Good luck, Coach Cooley! Go Hoyas!

Congrats Coach Ed! Congrats Hoyas! We can hope again. Although this one had me for about a quarter of a second... I mean who else is going to tell the guys to rebound after every shot goes up?

Congrats to Coach Cooley! Even I didn't know we were hiring someone with an 82% winning percentage....(still consistent in one respect)
And some welcome closure for [nearly all] of the fanbase.
Very curious to see how the next 4-6 weeks shake out.

Good Afternoon Coach Cooley!
I have observed you coach at Providence for a number of years! You have impressed me and many of your fans as being a well respected person and a very strong player’s coach.
Welcome to Georgetown University basketball program as the new coach! Please allow me for just this one time to leave the “ly” off your last name Sir!
I wish you much success!
🙏🏽😊⭐️🤝

I have wanted Cooley to coach the Hoyas at least dating back to the last coaching search, so I’m excited!! Given the universe of realistic outcomes, the stakeholders involved in the decision, and the all-too-real possibility of a disastrous hire (Amaker, Dawkins, a mid-major phenom who fails spectacularly), I think this was the best outcome we could have hoped for. I understand the concerns about his ceiling, but I believe Cooley will restore the Hoyas’ pride, rejuvenate our swagger, and fix a lot of aspects of the program that have languished for decades. As a bonus, our games with PC are going to be must-watch and I hope to see a nice rivalry developing with SJ as well. Hoya Saxa and welcome Coach!!

Espn does not enjoy having us as #1 in anything so I am sure they were happy St johns wanted to steal the thunder. But I also hope st Johns fans realize that Pitino committing (and also Brey to USF) are because we chose our guy and not either of them

Welcome Coach Cooley! I’ve respected him from afar for years (probably the one BE head coach that didn’t annoy me pre-Shaka smart joining Marquette). All things considered I think it’s a good fit, and I’m just glad I can start looking at the recruiting page again and obsess over Gtown basketball again. The last 6 years have basically been a nightmare so glad to at least have a fighting shot again. Hoya Saxa.

Three cheers for the WaPo. Georgetown has hired Ed Cooley to replace Patrick Ewing as its next men’s basketball coach, the school announced Monday. Cooley comes to the Hilltop after 12 seasons at the helm of Providence. The Friars went 242-153 under Cooley, as the program went to the NCAA tournament seven times during his tenure. They advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2022. Cooley is the first coach hired at Georgetown with no ties to Hall of Fame Coach John Thompson since his retirement in 1999. This will be his third head coaching position after leading Fairfield between 2006-2011. His career record overall record is 334-222. Cooley was named the Naismith coach of the year and Big East coach of the year in 2022 as the Friars won the conference and finished ranked No. 13 in the AP poll. Providence went into this year’s tournament as a No. 11 seed and lost to No. 6 seed Kentucky, 61-53, in the first round. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/03/20/ed-cooley-georgetown-coach/
