The stand-in Anderson eats dinner with the pictures, plays board games across the table from them and then joins them to watch a movie.

It was a biting callout to an image that has dogged the former Army Green Beret for the past month: Anderson, who recently got engaged and does not have kids, shot campaign footage this year that showed him posing with the wife and three daughters of a friend — a scene that critics pounced on as giving the false impression he was the patriarch of the nuclear family.

The comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” to warm up the New York City crowd — drawing immediate criticism from across the political spectrum and derailing what was supposed to be a night highlighting Trump in the final stretch of the campaign.

Judge strikes down GOP effort to change rules over military, overseas ballots

A federal judge in Pennsylvania threw out a lawsuit brought by six Republican congressmen from the state that sought stricter scrutiny of ballots from overseas, including from members of the military stationed abroad.

The lawmakers claimed in their lawsuit that because local election officials in Pennsylvania are not required to verify the identity or eligibility of voters who register overseas, those ballots are vulnerable to fraud. They wanted election officials to be required to set aside those ballots and not count them until voter eligibility can be determined.

The judge dismissed the case on several grounds, including that the members of Congress lacked standing and they filed the lawsuit too close to the election. The judge said the lawsuit’s claims of “vote dilution” is “wholly speculative and legally inadequate” as is the lawmakers’ assertion that the overseas ballots harm their electoral prospects.

Dozens of independent analysts — from the Peterson Institute for International Economics, Goldman Sachs, Pantheon Macroeconomics, the American Enterprise Institute, the Brookings Institution, Morgan Stanley, Penn Wharton Budget Model, the Yale Budget Lab and UBS, among others — have assessed the economic fallout of Trump’s plans. While they differ on scope of the potential damage, virtually all predict it would be significant.
