A tougher test than the last 2.

They have two 6-9 starters. One (Beran) can hit 3s the other ones a stiff/along with a 7 foot stiff Nicholson
6-3 Berry is a great 3 pt shooter A scoring pg in Buie who can shoot 3s Then their athletic 6-4 wing Audige who seems inconsistent from 3
The loss of their best players transferring to Duke and UNC hurts them.
Foul prone Beran is probably the key to their team so attacking him and getting him in foul trouble should be part of the game plan

Just win baby, just win. Not sure what the line will be for this game….but this one will likely be a battle.

This is the kind of opponent we should beat if we hope to be on the right side of the bubble.
Should be a close one.

Hopefully the coach has the team rewatch the first half of the Wisconsin Green Bay as it will prove properly humbling. Cannot afford to start with that kind of sloppy, individual play against better talent.

IMO, we have to be conscious of not letting expectations erode in the wake of recent failure.
If a 2 game sample size has shown us anything, it's that the talent on this roster is MUCH improved.
Northwestern at home is a an expected win. Period.

Just win baby, just win. Not sure what the line will be for this game….but this one will likely be a battle. Likely something favoring Northwestern by 1 to 2 or 2.5. The analytic projections call this a pretty close to 50-50 game, given that it’s a home game for us.

Unlike the first two games, Northwestern will present a lineup every bit as big as the Hoyas. They do not seem to take a lot of 3s, but then neither do the Hoyas. Through two games, what is clear is that just like last year, the Hoya offense stagnates when there is no ball movement and also when they are making careless TOs. Also cannot afford to play against a decent Northwestern team with a 3-man offense. It will be necessary to get Mozone and Akok involved on both ends of the court from the outset. Hopefully Ewing can find a way to cut some of the minutes from Murray and Spears without sacrificing too much offense.

Heath getting his waiver should provide the needed rest for Murray and particularly Spears. I hope he plays vs Northwestern.

NW's top scoring threat appears to be their 6'2" senior guard Boo Buie. Thompson's Towel podcasters think that B Murray will get the main assignment of covering him. With the addition now of Jay Heath and the different plans to sub, platoon, and shuttle the bench in and out, my thought is that when B Murray needs a break, Jordan Riley comes in to bring his defensive chops to covering Buie. Then, PG Spears and be relieved by PG Heath and they can follow with some mix and match at guard position that will keep a tough defense as well as a floor general throughout the game. Not sure how/if Anglin fits in there.
Will be interesting to see if and how the coaches use Ezewiro, Akok, Q, Bristol, Ryan, and maybe Bass.
The emergence of Riley last game as a first man off the bench and steady contributor, and now the o.k. for Heath makes me feel like we have some real weapons and fewer weak spots. Seems like we have more guys to step up if one or more guys aren't having a good night.
27 hours to tipoff -- let's go!!!!

All three shoot 4-6 3s a game We can throw multiple looks at them but I expect alot of primo-Heath-Murray platoons with primo on buie, Heath on Berry and Murray on Audige I think you also see Bristol on Berry Riley/Mozone on Audige

Back to northwestern….what are their strengths/weaknesses? Doing a rudimentary analysis they seem to be 4 3pt shooters and one big. So kind of like Villanova except Villanova has 4 guards/wings and one big while NW plays 2 bigs and 3 guards/wings. (With one big being able to shoot 3s) The 4 3pt shooters will shoot between 20-30 3pters in the game so anytime you have that there’s a lot of variability. They could 3pt barrage us out of the gym or stink it up. This will be a good test for our 3 pt defense. Attacking their 3pt shooting 6-9 big Berans is the key as if we get him in foul trouble they really don’t have another 3pt big to replace him. I expect Mozone and Akok with that defensive assignment. I do think our pressing and trapping may be rally effective however given they only have 3 ball handlers. I am just assuming that Berans won’t be fast or a good ball handler given his size at 6-9. He does have a low turnover rate but might not be able to help the guards against the press. If that’s the case then we may blow the doors off them. M

If we can knock Robbie Beran out of the game (via foul trouble) game over for them
