Dave (whom the B1G+ announcers insisted on calling Davey Nolan, been awhile since I've heard that one) was downright giddy in his post-game comments, which is entirely deserved. Apparently a bug went through the team this week; some players were left at home and others had very little if any practice ahead of the game. Natalie Means was the only really noteworthy absence in the starting lineup, however. Erin Junkmann and Ellen Carter played on the backline - no sign of Alex Bair or Izzy Boodell.
Random other thoughts:
1. So weird to see Gia in a different uniform playing against the Hoyas. She had the most shots of anyone on Rutgers, but nothing too dangerous.
2. Julia Leas is an absolute game-wrecker. Time and again, she disrupted whatever the Scarlet Knights (Scarlet Dames?) were trying to do offensively. No center back is ever winning the Hermann Trophy, but she deserves it.
3. Great to see the first goal quickly roll right into a second one. No sitting back and playing for 1-0 on the road and in the heat. Keep that foot on the pedal!
Kind of amazing that Providence has not given up a goal in 5 games, the last team left in D-I to not have conceded. They could be a real tough out this year.

Evenly or outplayed and definitely outmanuevered by an underdog. This does not bode well with Stanfurd coming to town. Took down Duke by 4-0.....JMU controlled the entire game by setting up from the back and controlling the ball with precision quick passing. G'town late on most everything. Compensated at the half but not enough and probably not enough talent differential to break a NIL-NIL tie. Wish we had Mohammed. She is a good one....I personally think we are strong on the defensive end, good offensively, but taken down in the midfield. Lack control. JMU used a Nolan strategy to beat Nolan as a 'dog....Control the ball.

Frustrating 0-0 draw. Hoyas outshot JMU but missed at least 4 shots over the crossbar.
JMU played Santa Clara tough at Santa Clara so they were bound to be a tough out.
Maya Lardner taken down by one of the JMU defenders late in the second, looked like a leg injury that hopefully is not serious.
Cara Martin played well in goal.

Well, it's a frustrating result given the flurry of opportunities toward the end, but considering that it could have very easily been JMU 2, Georgetown 0 after 10 minutes of play, I'm not going to complain tooooooo much. Also, after a week of broiling temperatures, it ended up being a humid but pleasant night out at the Soccerplex.
Credit JMU for mostly not playing for the draw, aside from some timewasting by the keeper on goalkicks. They had good athleticism - a must to be competitive in the Fun Belt - and played with good energy.
Having said that, if we're still playing with overtimes, Hoyas probably take this one. Even in regulation, there were a number of really good opportunities, including a couple of excellent corners by Tatum Lenain. So in some ways, you feel more positive with the offensive performance after this one than you did against Virginia Tech...even accounting for the fact that the Hokies drilled this JMU side 3-0 earlier.
Worrisome hard contact late with Maja Lardner. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
First action of the year for Cara Martin, and she came up huge early, plus added some more nice plays later on. The defense looked uncharacteristically disorganized at first, but the personnel keeps changing on the back line, which certainly complicates matters. Take the clean sheets however you can get them.
The Stanford juggernaut awaits on Sunday, fresh off a 4-0 drubbing of #10 Duke. A result would be absolutely huge. #19 Southern Cal did fall at home to Utah Valley today, and we all remember the time Stanford got upset by Santa Clara on their home field in the Sweet Sixteen. As Lee likes to say... #WhyNotUs

Oh the weather outside is weather... [] Not only that, but my flight and all the flights from Boston to DC tomorrow morning were cancelled late this afternoon. If anyone needs a ticket for the game tomorrow, I have three that I could forward. Just send me a message here.
