Very funny of your not to put Sr. in the subject line. You just made some folks hearts drop.

I think I'm fine with this? Considering how late in the game it is, idk how much talent was available. I know he wasn't a successful head coach, but that doesn't necessarily mean he can't be a good assistant (although, to be transparent, idk anything about him other than that he was Milwaukee's HC for a handful of years). Also kinda surprised he's only 49.
Lastly, I'm not in the 'this is a year too late' crowd. His son played 10 games. Not losing sleep over missing out on him

Anyone know if PBSr.’s teams were any good defensively? We know he’s very good at recruiting his own children….

Don’t know much about him other than he’s from Kansas and coached Northwestern and Midwest, but what I do like is getting another person with head coaching experience that PE is more likely to listen to then some young recruiter focused assistant.

You can take a look at Kenpom defensive stats and his teams were always better on defense than they were overall. You have to assume he’s got deep Midwest connections so we’ve got 2 DMV and a guy who has National contacts and we’ve gotten significantly younger/more high energy. Since he’s been a head coach, I hope he has a few really solid relationships with 2023 and 24 kids.

Gonna be honest, when I first saw that we hired him I thought “Wow we’re probably going to get Jr.”
And then I remembered that the draft is almost here and the time to withdraw passed a while ago and I thought “Ok so…why?”
Hope it turns out to be a great hire

Maybe his teams had a good APR? Someone not named Pat Ewing needs to address this failing.

Wonder if Ewing established a bit of a relationship with Pat Baldwin Sr. while recruiting his son, and that it helped Ewing feel comfortable bringing him in (and vice versa).
While not much success as a HC, he does have a long history as an assistant continually moving up -- usually a good sign.
I also like that not only did he coach at Northwestern, but that he was also a player there -- doesn't say much about basketball ability, but he knows what its like being at a great university and the rigors of going through it as a player. As much as players can sometimes be divorced from the reality of the everyday student's experience, it did seem in my time on the hilltop that there were still real expectations on the players in the classroom and on campus that aren't present at every institution. Having coaches who get that and can sell that (presumably) in recruiting seems valuable.
Otherwise, curious if Ewing would ever talk about why he chose Baldwin as the 3rd AC over other options.

You might need to check the APR scores to see how seriously the basketball team is taking school these days.

I wonder how the interview went. “Thanks for dragging us along for two years with your son while we sent our lead assistant coach to camp out at all of his games when you were clearly planning on leveraging his commitment for a contract extension. We’d like to offer you his job, no need to bring the son.”

Maybe there’s another son… He has Junior and three daughters. I don't know why on earth you demote Orr for a losing coach with no DC ties whose recruits are midmajor level unless you are getting Patrick Baldwin Jr in the deal. This makes absolutely no sense.

Does anyone else almost feel like Ewing is playing a joke on us lmao or is that just the state of the program where this is our exciting final move of the off season
