A prosecution of the orange psycho and his co-conspirators would be a good thing. Since Gerald Ford pardoned Richard M. Nixon for his Watergate crimes 48 years ago, Americans have been fixated on the need to heal and unite. But the United States is a global outlier in granting de facto impunity to former presidents. In many of the countries I’ve covered and followed closely as a foreign correspondent, prosecution of ex-leaders for crimes is not unusual and often expected by the public. In most cases, the democratic institutions not only held up but were bolstered by demonstrating that no one, even a former leader, is above the law. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/07/27/trump-hold-presidents-accountable-democracies/

DOJ ramping up. It has set up an evidence sharing arrangement with the 1/6 Select Committee.

All the mango maniac's lawyers. . .Philbin and Cipollone are at the same firm. Wonder if that firm is happy they took these guys on?
(CNN) The former deputy counsel to President Donald Trump has been subpoenaed in the federal criminal probe of the January 6 attack on the gUS Capitol, two sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.
Patrick Philbin was subpoenaed for testimony and documents, according to one of the sources. Philbin worked in the White House counsel's office under Pat Cipollone, who also was also subpoenaed for documents and testimony, according to sources.
Philbin did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Garland’s steady stream of testimony from high-level officials reaffirms this commitment. Marc Short, former vice president Mike Pence’s chief of staff, and Greg Jacob, his chief counsel, have already testified before the grand jury. Pat Cipollone, former White House counsel, and his deputy Patrick Philbin have been summoned. These attorneys had a front-row seat to the false-electors scheme. In calling them in to testify, Garland eliminates doubt as to whether the department is exploring evidence of Trump’s connection to the nonviolent elements of the coup as well as to the violence on Jan. 6. (Spoiler: He is examining both.) www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/04/jan-6-garland-investigation-intensifies/

The Justice Department’s grand jury subpoenas to former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone and others in former President Trump’s inner circle mark a turning point in the federal law enforcement investigation of the former president. The grand jury probe has considerably more power than the House Jan. 6 select committee to pierce any executive privilege claims that the former president might raise — an issue that has come up with Cipollone.
When Cipollone agreed to provide testimony to the Jan. 6 panel, he declined to answer certain questions concerning his conversations with Trump, citing attorney-client and executive privileges.
Experts say those assertions of privilege would be unlikely to hold up in court if Trump or Cipollone were to try to use them to withhold information from a grand jury.
“The grand jury subpoena from the Department of Justice is a much more powerful tool than a congressional subpoena,” said Neil Eggleston, who served as White House counsel for the Obama administration and represented former President Clinton in a dispute over another White House lawyer’s grand jury testimony.
“In my view, would be inconceivable that the Department of Justice would not win,” Eggleston added.

Section 2071(b) of Title 18, U.S. Code: Whoever mutilates, removes, or destroys (among other things) public records or documents "shall . . . be disqualified from holding any office under the United States."

Poor baby narcissist. What a pathetic excuse for a human being. But clearly the leader of the MAGA GOP cult. Now that the FBI has executed a search warrant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club, the former president can indulge what has become his most important impulse, his driving motivation, his very reason for being: to whine and complain. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/09/fbi-search-trump-whining/
