I'm typically pretty pessimistic but am going to hold out hope, at least until all the chips have fallen There’s always hope. Don Carey, one of Pat’s best players, signed on or around July 21 of that year. Is there a Hoya player who has signed later than that?

I’m going to be optimistic here. What they have now is a bunch of guys who can handle pass and shoot. Spread teams out and create. Something they have severely lacked in Ewing’s tenure. I'm as concerned as the next guy regarding our frontcount but agree regarding the optimism with our backcourt. Seems like we have 7 solid guards/wings that will be a significant improvement from last year. I also don't see a problem with 3 of those 7 being on the floor at all times. I know it's a BIG if and the pool is getting smaller but bring in a starting caliper 4 & 5 and this team is really in business. Missing on Ward really stings but the reality is we should be okay at wing and Heath seems like a great pickup that's been overshadowed by the Ward miss. Pretend for a minute that Ward never even considered the Hoyas and I think we would be pretty happy with where things have fallen 1-3 to this point (Murray, Spears, Heath). Fingers crossed for a big time 4 or 5 (maybe Q as a solid 5 paired with a strong 4) and things might turn out pretty well for us I'm typically pretty pessimistic but am going to hold out hope, at least until all the chips have fallen If Ewing can get away from living off traditional bigs and utilize his bigs like the bigs in the NBA game they could be interesting.

Why are we even talking about this?
We're not gonna play with 8 guys and no bigs (other than Ryan).
We might end up with Bates, Akok, and Mballa (yeah!) or 3 SRDs (boo!), but either way we're not playing with the team we have right now.
Portal entry just ended yesterday. We'll get somebody. Then let's talk.

I believe we can have success with a 3 guard line up (can't substitute under control speed). Those that have committed seem to have good outside shooting skills. Hoping for the best. Even the NBA is playing small ball. Look at the many 7 footers on the bench that don't even see the floor.

How does that work? Who are the 2s and 3s who will emerge to get PT? Murray and Heath are two. We’ve seen Pat play a small number of players a lot. Will he change for Riley, Anglin, and Bass?

All that's fine - though some of that will even be dependent on our forward additions. Mostly it's comments like "blah blah roster construction" or "this team isn't any better than last year's" or "i can't believe we can't get any big guys"... Pat & staff may succeed or fail in finding us a viable frontcourt, but people need to let the process play out. Instead of familiar names like Akok or Bates, the next addition may just end up being the big man version of Jay Heath - and show up out of nowhere.

I know we’ll add more, but if we rolled out the current roster, we start to see Ws. I may be the only guy who hopes Holloway comes back, but I love his potential and think he adds a lot to our squad, especially w another solid defender behind him. Same w Aminu, who never did enter the portal and could well be coming home for another season. Or I am confident the staff has other options in mind, knowing a lot more about what could happen w those guys. But we’re building a winning gumbo and I like the smell from the kitchen.

I want Holloway back also. Actually based off of what we currently have Holloway may be more needed than Aminu....

I guess we'll know by tomorrow who entered the Transfer Portal.

If Aminu returns and an additional power forward or mobile/athletic 5 we will be a team no one want's to play and be a sleeper in the Big East. Tid bit: I read an article that put Akok under Wahab as the best 5 (more like a 4) that was available.

I guess we'll know by tomorrow who entered the Transfer Portal. I thought the deadline was May 1. What am I missing? This is the last day of April as well as the eve of a significant date for players on college teams that compete in fall and winter sports. If one wants to use the one-time transfer and be immediately eligible for the upcoming season, the player has to be in the transfer portal by May 1. The transfer portal is busy with more than 2,500 football players alone entering since Aug. 1, and outgoing football and basketball players are going to create one final surge before the finish line. 247sports.com/college/west-virginia/Article/What-the-May-1-deadline-does-and-does-not-mean-for-transfers-186941550/

I think programs can hold a portal entrance request for 48 hours.

I think programs can hold a portal entrance request for 48 hours. So it isn't made public until 48 hours past the midnight deadline on May 1. Thanks for clarifying.

But does it prevent the player from announces it if he wishes? I doubt it but my impression is the same as conshyhoya's - for most of the players that entered from Georgetown, we found out about through people watching Portal Updates rather than their own social media.
