Maybe the arena security person who confiscated the #HirePitino sign can confiscate Bill Howze’s iPhone next time he starts playing Wordle.

Carey did all he could. Mutombo and Billingsley are freshman but still gave it their all. That said, this game turned on three factors:
1. Free throws. Georgetown did not pound the ball inside on a questionable Hall defense and the Pirates did. Hall was 14-19 at the line (missing two front ends of 1:1s in the first half), GU 4-5 for the game and just 3-3 after halftime.
2. Second chance points: This stat has hurt the Hoyas all season: Seton Hall 16-11.
3. Kaiden Rice is fool's gold: for very wild three he is a defensive liability and a poor shooter late in games. He missed his last five shots of the game when a pass to Carey or Mutombo would have been significantly more effective. Rice has 7 assists this season. Seven.

Very critical postgame remarks of Billingsley’s job covering Richmond at the end. “We can’t do that high school stuff. We’ve got to man up.” Nothing about maybe he shouldn’t have been in the game over the most effective player of the night. No blame or accountability again for the coaching staff that is presiding over the worst season in 50+ years, but plenty for a Freshman who wasn’t a top 200 recruit. He lit into Billingsley at a timemout and glared at him. Muresan came over and patted Billingsley on the back who looked demoralized. Not a good look IMO.

Pat picking one player to trash publicly when more than half the team can't guard a parked car...what is he doing? Is he capable of taking any blame?
Maybe just yelling "rebound" without any insight in how to do so isn't good coaching. Just maybe. The difference between PE's coaching during TO's and Shaka, Beard, etc- is something.

I'm not sure which play Pat is calling out JBill for. He says a drive by Richmond, but I think he may mean the layup by Rhoden late.
I did think at the time (and again on re-watch) that Jalin didn't make much effort to get around Obiagu to help defensively.
That said - I think calling him out for that in a post-game presser is a VERY bad look.

Unfortunately this team as it stands today lacks any one player who can be counted on to make shots in late or important game situations.

I have come to accept where this season is headed and for once I at least felt somewhat ok after a loss watching Mutumbo get extended minutes, seeing these kids fight...and then he pulls that crap in post game? He take ZERO responsibility for anything. You can tell Billingsley is giving his all even if he's not ready just yet to compete night after night at this level. To put that on this kids shoulders is shameful. I am officially done w/this dude. You know 5 years ago I would have said no matter what he does as coach...he could lose every game...it will never tarnish how I feel about him as a player and figure in Gtown history...not sure if I still feel that way.

our lack of inside bulk is killing us against teams like Uconn and Seton Hall. we can't draw fouls when these bigger, more athletic teams can easily block/alter most of our interior shots without fouling . There is almost no point in trying to score inside against a defender like Ogiabu. We don't have anyone other than Aminu who has a chance of converting at a non-disastrous rate, and he is more likely to throw up a wild miss than score/draw a foul against a high level shot blocker.
And we can't keep strong, athletic teams off the offensive boards. We simply don't have the big, athletic players who can keep these kind of opponents off the boards. We actually have a prayer of competing with a good team like Nova because they don't have the physicality and size to completely control the rim on both ends of the court. But a team like seton Hall has to play an epically bad game (like tonight) for us to have any chance of competing with them.
This is not a criticism of the players. It's just the reality of the limitations of the roster.

I haven't seen the actual comment on Billingsly yet, but it sounds horrible. Ewing's defenders blame his lack of roster retention on the current basketball landscape, and yet Ewing does things like that? All I can do is shake my head. It was good that the guys stayed in this game for most of it, and you could see their excitement when they took the lead. At this point, I feel bad for all of these guys. They are trying, as they did in this game, but being failed by their leaders.

It's behavior as such that's likely informed decisions to leave/transfer out of the program @ an alarming rate over the past 5 years - e.g. Derrickson's early departure.

I would have to watch it again but if I remember correctly Rhoden rejected the screen and blew right past either Carey or Rice to the basket, not sure at all how JB gets the blame….

Can someone direct me to the exact Billingsly quote? Sorry if I somehow missed it. This is a Georgetown freshman student athlete thrown under the bus by his coach. DeGioia needs to step in now before it gets worse. McD on Thursday will be intense!

I honestly thought JBill could've tried harder (or at all, really) to get around Ike. He's the only big on the floor at that point, and JR just walked it to the hoop. I dunno about the context of the discussion right there ^^. Maybe it was just a thing that popped in his head - but it seems like they were talking about it already. Probably shouldn't have brought it up at all. But - whatever, i guess. These are things that seem important only when you're 0-8.

Tired of piling on certain guys, but it was clear Mutombo was the most effective big by a wide margin on both ends tonight. You just hope the staff's decision to limit him to 22 minutes vs. 26-28 minutes didn't cost us the game, but with how the other 24 minutes by Tim/JBill went, you also can't help but think it did. Comedy of errors by both teams tonight. Poor shot selection, questionable decision-making and poor execution all around. Seems like Obiagu has made a career out of the Hoyas just forcing shots into his outstretched hands. In the end, the difference was pretty predictable: second chance points. Staff can yell "rebound" until the cows come home, but until you teach the kids how to box out it's not going to matter. With Aiken out, seemed like a good time to pressure Richmond (not a good ball handler at all) and Harris into some turnovers. Didn't really try until down 5 in the final 60 seconds. Missed opportunity again there, but the coach is now on record saying he doesn't want to try to use his best defensive asset to win games unless it's too late. Hard to expect anything different tonight. Getting increasingly hard to see when this "little skid" will mercifully come to an end. J Bill is not a center and Tim was struggling badly. Ryan is our best option.

Well, Ryan M’s best game as a Hoya. He is starting to show up as the answer at 5 for next year. Yes. He needs to hit the weight room very hard and do a lot of running to get more fit. But he has potential.

Good games from Carey and Mutombo. Rice , Aminu and Dante had their moments . We still leave three point shooters way too open. This was a game we should’ve stolen. Aminu and Dante are playing as hard as they can and are the best we have. They play their hearts out.

Haven’t seen the official announced attendance for tonight but will be shocked if it even approaches 4,O00 — based on what they announced for Butler (record low for a Big East game of 4100 or so) and what I saw then and what I saw tonight. And whatever number is announced will dwarf the actual fannies in the building number, I’m sure. Just a brutally sad turn out — but special props to a hardy crop of maybe 150 students in one end zone that did do their best to add some atmosphere and a few other lads sitting near me that cheered mightily when the limited opportunities arose. 8:30 starts are killers for attendance in the best of times and needless to say these are not such times. Not sure if anything can be done with FS1 and the time they schedule us in these doubleheader nights, but a sad reality for now is that teams that are good will draw attendance at almost whatever time they play and teams that aren’t — like us — may need some help to play in a more fan friendly window.
