How badly do you need to mess up on an international scale in order for Switzerland to take sides against you? Putin managed what Hitler and Stalin couldn’t. And somehow some Republicans are still siding with Putin? Yikes.

US has expelled twelve "diplomats" i.e., intelligence officers (SVR) of the Russian Mission to the UN (RFMUN).
The Washington Post, Feb. 28, 2022
By John Hudson, 4:13 p.m.
The United States on Monday announced the expulsion of 12 Russian officials who were serving as diplomats in New York, accusing them of “engaging in espionage activities that are adverse to our national security,” said Olivia Dalton, a spokeswoman for the U.S. mission to the United Nations.
Russia, a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, maintains a mission of diplomats in New York, some of whom have been accused in the past of conducting espionage under the false cloak of diplomatic status.
The Russian officials “abused their privileges of residency in the U.S.,” Dalton said.
Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, called the expulsions a “hostile” act and a violation of Washington’s commitments as a host of the U.N. headquarters in New York City. He said Russia would respond to the expulsions.
Responding to the accusation, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said, “I think the hostile act is committing espionage activities on our own soil.”

Thankfully, NATO is doing what NATO was designed to do. I'm not educated enough to know what it will mean for the global economy if Russia's economy collapses within the month (which are the projections that I've read) but I very much hope that it curtails or ends this unprovoked attack on Ukraine and that it changes the minds of some Russians at home with regard to their support of Putin. If their economy continues the way it's headed, millions of Russian people are going to be badly affected for many years to come. And, their leader will have brought it upon them all on his own with no one else to blame.

I've read that hospitals and schools (in addition to residential properties) were consciously chosen targets. I don't know if that's true but it certainly wouldn't surprise me. Putin is showing who he is and what he's willing to do. I very much hope that both NATO and the EU fast track applications for inclusion to, hopefully, help curtail this incursion from spreading.

But according to the leader of the MAGA GOP, Putin is a "genius" and the despicable former Secy of State has called him "elegantly sophisticated." I guess our HoyaTalk "Republicans" are on board with the leaders of their party/cult?

What's it called when a certified idiot calls someone else a genius?

All the descriptions of Putin's mental state, how he receives "advice" and acts, are eerily similar to how the orange psychopath acted. Not a coincidence as both are cut from the same narcissistic autocratic cloth.

So Putin waited until his puppet was out of office and replaced by the Uber competent Biden to launch his incursion? Serious question. If this event happens in a Trump White House do you think he would have the diplomatic chops and mental discipline to achieve a quarter of what we’ve been able to do currently with our ally’s to make this as painful for Russia as humanely possible? Would you want him as the person navigating us through this crisis if you could make that happen?

No. I would not want him in charge.
But I have zero confidence in Biden either.
