Jordan Scott committed to Michigan State this week. One year ago, Jordan and his family were on the front row at Georgetown's scrimmage.
What happened in this case? This is a local family with Georgetown parents: his sister plays for the women's team. Was it a matter of Izzo > Cooley? Or was it a case of, like Jaren Jackson Jr, that the word got out that if he wanted to make the NBA, Georgetown wasn't the place to do it?

Maryland, where his mother went to school, was a runner-up. There's not a ton of indication that he was a priority for Cooley and staff.

Or was it a case of, like Jaren Jackson Jr, that the word got out that if he wanted to make the NBA, Georgetown wasn't the place to do it? I was excited about the prospects of him at this time last year myself. However on HR a few "in the know" emphasized that those in Scott's inner circle were huge proponents of Izzo. Izzo was/is a huge star in college basketball and his program was one that had produced a number of NBA stars. This meant something. Also Izzo started recruiting Scott before Cooley because Cooley did not begin doing so until after he was hired at GU. It was always a matter of catch up with him. Many months ago Scott made it a moot point by dropping GU out of his final choices. Cooley did all he could other than reel him in. Unfortunately a whole generation and a half of players/parents in the DMV seem to have put inside their minds the notion that it is better to go to the blueblood schools than considering Georgetown. Of course Gtown hired Cooley to combat such notions. Other new hires around the country can often keep the local talent immediately because of the fresh blood and energy they bring with them. This hasn't happened a lot with Cooley at GU but at the same time he doesn't have the advantage of working for a huge state university as some of those other coaches I am referring to. The good news is that Cooley's staff is reaching out to the local talent and coaches more than any other head coach of Gtown in my lifetime. This means constantly bringing in entire high school teams to the campus to watch the Georgetown practices. They are trying to get in there early and make a positive impression. That's a good thing because as loaded as the DMV has been, the talent level is getting better and better for the foreseeable future.

Showed up at his high school to hang out a bit with him (Izzo did the same thing earlier) and had Scott come to campus to watch a scrimmage of last year's team in McD with the GU students in attendance (probably did not help that the attendance was low).

It was too late for Cooley to win the initial recruiting battle with JS. Maybe get him possibly on the next big social media announcement in 2 years.

Part of recruiting is making a player comfortable for the inevitable transfer. See you in two years kid!

Would be a huge get for the Hoyas. I know there is some feeling that it is Michigan, but fingers crossed anyway.

Or could there be more nuance?

Just a massive reminder of how deep a hole the program has dug. Winning and getting guys in the Association again will cure most. Have never and will never compete on practice facilities or in game experience. And certainly never re: on-campus game environment. (In fairness I've never visited the TAC but I'm guessing that all it did was get Georgetown only 5-10 years behind Power 5 type schools, not even with them).

It was clear very early he was going to the big ten.

I think the TAC is fully up to speed to power five teams. Housing and other amenities I have no idea about.

The TAC is very nice, even if it is behind a bit to some I don’t think it’s a sandbag at all in this kind of NIL focused environment. Tho as a fairly recent resident of vil B, I don’t think it’s up to par from what I know about certain P5 schools. Idk about the majority of them tho. Do our players share rooms in vil B?

Players are getting paid. I doubt facilities differences of this type are much of a deciding factor. They were probably not all that close to the top before NIL, but now?

Would be a huge get for the Hoyas. I know there is some feeling that it is Michigan, but fingers crossed anyway. It would be a MAJOR upset if it's not Michigan May made Trey a priority since day 1 on the job and Trey has been on campus several times this fall.

It's about as much of a done deal as it gets.

He may well end up at Michigan… but why’s he waiting if it’s a done deal?
