Where has the love gone? Who was his main GU recruiter? A lot of effort has been put into his recruitment. Someone should follow up asap. No chance without Kirby.

Which schools remain heavily involved?
“Schools that are heavily in the mix are Auburn, St. John’s & Georgetown.”
How about Georgetown?
“Georgetown is a great program and they have been recruiting me since my freshman year. They are coached by the legend Patrick Ewing and they have a beautiful campus.”

It may be improbable, but it would be great to get him. He's the kind of player who makes everyone better! We can always use that talent. Competition makes everyone better.

A lot of work has gone into this recruitment: www.on3.com/news/4-star-forward-brandon-gardner-sets-commitment-date/Class of 2023 four-star prospect Brandon Gardner tells On3 he will announce his college decision on Monday, June 27th at 8:00 AM ET. The 6-foot-7 power forward out of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God will decide between Auburn, LSU, St. John’s, and Georgetown. He’s visited each of his final four schools, with the trip to the Hoyas being unofficial. Georgetown: “A player like me, I feel like I could change the whole program around, if I can get a point guard to go with me, and a good wing…“We have a great relationship,” Gardner said of Georgetown’s staff. “They love me, they love my mom. Coach (Patrick) Ewing and coach (Robert) Kirby even came to my crib once.”

I had heard he was leaning toward St John's recently. Not sure if the fact that Kirby is no longer on the staff is a big deal or not, but Kirby seemed to be the lead recruiter. I hope we land this young man, he looks to be an exciting player.

If your talent level is so good you can change a program why are you looking at Georgetown and St John’s?

If your talent level is so good you can change a program why are you looking at Georgetown and St John’s? He has an unrealistic view of his talent level.

If your talent level is so good you can change a program why are you looking at Georgetown and St John’s? There are always reasons. Relationships, playing time, parents, on him early, ability to be showcased, Big East, etc.

Now, the uber-talented 6-foot-8 Gardner, an electric athlete with 3-point range, had a lot of other options. The Georgia native took official visits to LSU and Auburn. Georgetown and Ole Miss tried to get him to take visits in recent weeks. But St. John’s was his choice — it had been for weeks. Comfort played a major role. Gardner’s mother, Tameka Gordon, and Anderson share a friend who raved about the St. John’s coach’s character. Then there was Macon. He met Gordon during an AAU tournament early on in her son’s recruitment. Initially, she didn’t know Macon was a coach as they watched Gardner play since he wasn’t wearing any school-affiliated clothing. They got to know each other well that way. Eventually that day, after sharing a bag of chips and watching the game, Macon revealed he was a coach for St. John’s. “I consider him a silent killer,” Gordon said. “From that moment on [after we met], I was like, ‘I like him.’ “He came in the scene out of nowhere. The calls I got from all the other coaches, some were great, some were generic. He really set the tone. He taught me a lot in this recruiting process, a lot of things that I need to look at and pay attention to, not just the glamor of the visits and the weight rooms and all that stuff. Knowing him, his wife Pam Macon who I met, their entire family, it felt warm.” nypost.com/2022/06/27/inside-brandon-gardners-st-johns-commitment-recruitment/Why St. John’s? “It’s about the fit, it isn’t about the name. It’s about how they’ll use you and where you’re wanted. Go where you’re wanted and where you’re loved because this is a life-changing event, you know?” Gardner’s relationship with the staff: “It’s like a family for real. That’s really why I chose St. John’s over all over these schools. We talk all of the time, we can talk about anything. I really mess with those guys.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/four-star-brandon-gardner-commits-to-st-john-s

I think this is a growth opportunity for Aidan / HilltopHoops. He seemed really into Gardner from Twitter posts but if you want to seriously cover sports, you can’t get your panties in a twist over losing a recruit and definitely not a top 70 kid when you fire his lead recruiter. I often disagree with HH but I appreciate his coverage and effort. hm
