I think this a good move all around. Texas has unrealistic expectations that Smart was never going to be able to meet, and he’s an upgrade on Wojo and won’t have as much pressure as he did at Texas.

Texas just seems like a terrible job that you take for the money (and I fully recognize that money talks). Unrealistic expectations, insane boosters, second fiddle (at best) to football no matter how successful you are, yada yada.
This is a great move for Shaka and Marquette, to me.

This is very good news for Marquette and the BE especially if he returns to a style of play he seems more comfortable with...

A great hire for Marquette, and a smart move for Smart. He certainly could see where things were headed in Austin. This is a nice hire for the league, but it makes our annual path that much more difficult. It has been a quiet set of changes lately, but I think Smart at Marquette and Mike Anderson at St. John’s have both been great additions to the Big East.

Another Final Four caliber coach in the BE is only a good thing.

Wonder who paid the TX buyout. Wouldn't be surprised if it were a group of Texas football boosters.

Another Final Four caliber coach in the BE is only a good thing. The media and fans have focused more on star coaches than players in college basketball forever. Now that you may only have a player for four months, not four years, coaches that are treated like stars are probably even more valuable. At least for now, Shaka should still be seen as enough of a star to boost the profile of the Big East as a whole.
