The top four teams in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll retained their positions this week. Gonzaga remained #1 after a 100-61 victory at San Francisco and a COVID-19 postponement of a road game scheduled at Santa Clara; Baylor retained the #2 slot despite postponements of games against then-#7 ranked Texas Tech and at then-#13 ranked West Virginia after pausing competition due to COVID-19; Michigan continued at #3 after a 67-59 victory at #21 Wisconsin after ending a competition pause that postponed a scheduled game against then-#6 ranked Illinois; Ohio State remained #4 after a 73-65 road win at Maryland and a 78-59 win against Indiana. Illinois moved up one slot to #5 after a 77-72 overtime win at Nebraska and the Michigan postponement.
Villanova and Creighton continue to be the only two ranked Big East Conference schools. The Wildcats dropped five slots to #10 after a 96-64 win over Marquette and an 86-70 loss to then-#19 ranked Creighton. The Bluejays jumped up five slots to #14 after a 63-48 road win at Georgetown and the home court victory over Villanova. Xavier is the only other Big East Conference school receiving any votes in the AP Top 25 this week. Creighton advanced the largest amount amongst ranked teams this week. Missouri dropped the furthest amongst ranked teams, falling ten slots to #20 after an 89-59 road loss at unranked Mississippi and an 86-81 home court overtime loss against then-unranked Arkansas,
The bottom three teams in last week’s AP Top 25 all fell out of the polls this week. Oklahoma State, formerly #23, lost at then-unranked Kansas (78-66) and defeated Kansas State, 67-60; Purdue, formerly #24, defeated Northwestern (75-70) and lost at unranked Minnesota (71-68); Rutgers, formerly #25, lost at then-#15 ranked Iowa (79-66) and defeated Northwestern (64-50). Replacing them are Kansas (#23), Arkansas (#24) and San Diego State (#25). The Jayhawks returned to the rankings after defeating then-#23 ranked Oklahoma State and sweeping Iowa State (97-64 at Lawrence KS and 64-50 at Ames IA); the Razorbacks are ranked for the first time this season after wins at Kentucky (81-80) and at then-#10 ranked Missouri (86-81 in overtime); the Aztecs returned to the rankings after sweeping San José State at home (85-54 and 77-55).
