At first blush, of course this is true. But, if the "Republican" "party" has shown us anything, it's that law and order, the Constitution, human rights, voters' rights, etc., etc., etc. matter not at all to them when it comes to them attempting to get and/or retain power. There is no bottom. I assume this will be no different if given the slightest opening. Just look at what Texas is trying to do vis-a-vis people crossing the border in Texas/Louisiana for the latest glaring example.

Over the next few hours, days, and weeks, there will be countless “takes” about this man, as past and would-be president, and his convictions. There will be poll data. There will be denunciations of his prosecutors and the jurors who convicted him, and of the judge who presided over the case—many of these attacks will be reckless and ignorant, some of them dangerous. And there will be praise of all these actors too. We will hear technical claims about New York law and federal law and their interaction. We will hear claims that sound in fairness. We will hear claims that sound in politics and electoral horse race analysis. We will hear claims that sound in rage and in cries of justice and injustice. But none of these takes will alter these two fundamental facts, facts that weren’t true at 4:20 pm this afternoon yet were true an hour later. The first fact is important as a matter of history and accountability. It matters that the United States has had a more than two-century-long tradition of not prosecuting our presidents. And it matters that the United States has now had a president whose criminality was so relentless, so dangerous, and so unrepentant as to require the abrogation of that tradition. It matters that the United States has a system of divided sovereignty such that the federal government’s decision not to prosecute Trump for this matter did not resolve the question of whether a District Attorney in Manhattan might choose to put a variant of the same fact pattern before 12 residents of the city. www.lawfaremedia.org/article/thoughts-on-donald-trump-s-conviction

It’s generally very unfortunate that everything Trump touches turns to excrement, but, this time, I’m glad he decided to get his tiny hands all over his defense. There’s never been a more incompetent person so convinced of their own competence.

Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Everything the Grifter touches turns to merde! Donald Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani is one step closer to being disbarred. The professional responsibility board in Washington, DC, recommended Friday that the ex-New York mayor and federal prosecutor lose his law license because of his involvement in a bogus 2020 election fraud lawsuit. www.cnn.com/2024/05/31/politics/rudy-giuliani-election-fraud-disbarment/index.html

As expected, the mob moves against law abiding citizens who faithfully did their jobs in support of the rule of law in New York. Despicable.

There were a bunch of articles today explaining how Trump supporters are framing this as “Good vs Evil”. Somehow these racist, homophobic, misogynistic, fake Christian, absolute degenerates have deluded themselves into thinking they are the good guys. History is littered with awful people who have convinced themselves they are the good guys.

Just curious... can Biden now weaponize the DOJ prior to sentencing? He's already been accused of having done so for 3 years.
