I’m trying to decide whether to feel genuine optimism that next year we could be in for a big bounce back. It does seem like we are on the verge of having a big weekend in the portal, and it’s good to have continuity on the roster even if last season was rough. That being said, it’s hard to figure out how much of an improvement is realistic in one season. At least it’s nice to see some positive news.

The thing I’m clinging to is pretty much the entire conference will be weaker. UConn and Creighton will be good still, but I’d expect fall offs from pretty much everyone else. We are lot closer to the rest of the pack in terms of talent than we have been in 4 years.

Likely not a huge bounce back, but should be much better than last year. Still have a relatively young team and at least 6 new players likely to get playing time. The additions this year are really good and should be a good improvement over talent and ball IQ from last year. But, this to come together with a young team and four first time D1 freshmen. I wouldn't expect miracles, but good improvement over last year. If this group this upcoming year sticks togeter things could look realy good the following year.

Bring on Kenner so I can buy into the unrealistic expectations and hype! ;-)

I am thinking in terms of what we have gained & lost with players gone and players new and the returning crew. Then I think about depth and our bench.
Gone: Heath, Massoud, Bristol, Mutumbo, Brumbaugh, Kazor, Bacote. New: McKenna (new for all intents and purposes), Mulready, Sorber, Williams, Peavey, Van Raaphorst, and gonna say it - Mack. Add 1-2 more portal additions. Returning: Styles, Cook, Fielder, Epps, Montgomery, Assadalah.
Will miss Rowan, but hoping & expecting that feeling to dissipate as the season progresses. Otherwise, I don't see one position where we didn't improve/add more talent. One of our biggest problems last season was that we didn't have the talent to play the kind of basketball -- especially defense -- that wins games. It would appear that we have taken a big step -- maybe 2-3 big steps -- toward bringing in the talent necessary to play good defense and win in the Big East.
As for depth, we are going to have to play 8-9 deep, and we are going to have to be ready for injuries and missed PT and games. When I read a post talking about Sorber having had back problems and the like, and when we learn that Drew's knees can affect his play, I am concerned that if we lose either/both (plus any others) for any length of time, will we have the horses to back them up? I will be waiting to see what the final additions are, but right now, EC is likely to start the season with several versatile, athletic players who can help in such circumstances, and that will make us better and more resilient.
Reserving all-out optimism for a bit later, but I am very much liking what's taking shape.

Keep in mind that while Mutumbo is still graduating this spring (in 3 years) he is still listed on the team for next year and has a year of eligibility left.

But I figured that with his graduating, his not getting much PT last year, and his overall lack of intensity about it all, that he probably was done. Stay tuned, I guess.

Gotta bump it up a notch... Maybe I'm being stupid (wouldn't be the first time), but I don't think we are in this table. Isn't the G team in Tier 3 Gonzaga? I mean good God, two recent national champions and this year's runner up are in Tier 4. How could we possibly be in Tier 3? We're probably in Tier 23.

I'll be easy and point out the team logo that says "Gonzaga" on the right side is Gonzaga. The big blue "G" is actually Georgetown. I'm not a big have of charts like this without background. I took this to mean a program that isn't coach dependent. At the moment I don't really know where Georgetown stands, it is better on this front than I expected it to be. But, with Gonzaga, if Mark Few left I don't know how long it would stay at the level it is. Looking at Villanova and it isn't the program Jay Wright built (he could recruit and coach up players like crazy).

I thought for sure this post was a joke considering the logo posted just below your Board name (and on edit I now realize it must be the default logo because I have it too!!)

I don't care what criteria they use, though, we don't currently belong anywhere near this table.
