I am sorry to hear that Tommy has died. He came to our house when I was 12, the year he won the Rookie of the Year award. I was a big fan, and I have a picture of Tommy and me looking at my scrapbook on him. May he rest in peace.

It's hard to imagine the Boston Celtics without Tommy Heinsohn. There isn't a generation of Celtics fans for whom Tommy's presence hasn't been felt. He is the only person to be an active participant in each of the Celtics' 17 World Championships, an extraordinary and singular legacy.

RIP to Horse's Heine. That may sound denigrating, but it really isn't intended that way. He was the coach when I was in Cambridge, and I was never a big fan, but I certainly had nothing against him, unlike Johnny "they're calling it the other way" Most, the biggest homer in American sports history.

Tommy Heinsohn was a major part of the fabric of the Celtics/Knicks rivalry (yes, this was once a thing), and it is indeed hard to picture the Celtics without Heinshon close at hand. RIP, Tommy.

The Eastern Finals in ‘73 and ‘74 were tong wars and Heinsohn/Holzman was always an interesting coaching match up.

The Eastern Finals in ‘73 and ‘74 were tong wars and Heinsohn/Holzman was always an interesting coaching match up. I was at one of the 1973 games at Boston Garden, sitting in the upper deck and rooting for the Knicks. Well, not really for the Knicks, but against the Celtics. I think it was game 5. The guy sitting next to me kept yelling out Heine, do this, or Heine, do that. as if Heine could hear him. He actually turned to me at one point and apologized for getting so emotionally involved in the game. I just smiled and said I understood, not telling him I was a Laker fan. Heinsohn's stats in game 7 his rookie year against the Hawks were amazing. I don't remember that series (I was 6), but it must have been quite something.
