Despite the title it was NOT an open practice, it was essentially a season preview with interviews. It’s fine and better than nothing, but they should have never described it as anything other than a preview. I still would have watched, but would not have been disappointed not seeing any on court action. I get it’s tough to broadcast a live practice, but was thinking maybe they’d have a midnight madness like thing with contests, quick scrimmages, etc. Oh well. It was better than nothing. Is it really that hard to broadcast an open practice? I enjoyed what they just gave us, but I genuinely would have enjoyed watching practice from one camera up high in the corner haha.

I think there’s a few issues: 1.) Putting it out on tape for anyone to consume, real things you are working on 2.) Issues with censoring language or other things you wouldn’t want to air that probably happen in a real practice 3.) You run the risk of things not looking great, players not executing, mistakes, etc. That’s why typically you’d do something a bit more like a 3 point shoot out, dunk contest, maybe quick half court 3x3 runs with teams rotating in and out, etc.

Call it a talk with the Ewings, call it a Q&A. But this wasn't practice. If GU can broadcast Midnight Madness (and they did for the better part of a decade) without betraying trade secrets about the program, they could have done more with this. They chose not to.

What they produced was fine so long as you call it a season preview. Don’t mislabel that as an open practice.

I hope they would run a scrimmage like some other teams are doing with their virtual streams. That way we could see these players in action. I'm expecting something more along the lines of a slight step above Midnight Madness. That was way worse than I expected and I wasn’t expecting all that much. Other teams are doing actual practices and scrimmages and we did that? This team’s interaction with the fan base never fails to disappoint.

Happy for the effort to put out content, but no practice and this could have been put on the website to consume at our convenience.

Oklahoma State has broadcasted multiple practices. It's doable for sure.

GW did a full on virtual scrimmage. To act as if it’s not possible or a competitive disadvantage is ridiculous. If we can’t beat UMBC because they watched our scrimmage than we got bigger problems than we know.

But knowing how this program has been notoriously secretive, I have to imagine they wanted no part of giving us that unedited, raw access. My biggest issue is if that’s going to be the program stance (for better or worse) don’t advertise this as a live open practice. Just tell us you’ll be posting a pre-recorded season preview piece.

Also, the production values were pretty amateurish. It was still good to see everyone, but no one really seemed relaxed on camera or had much to say. So other than substance and style, it was pretty good. Better than nothing, but just.

OK, this has probably been discussed here but gotten lost in the torrent of political posts?
Will next week's game be televised?

This was seriously bad! No substance whatsoever. Poorly done and mislabeled as a practice. Message to our athletic department and basketball program: Let's respect our loyal Hoya fans!

What did anyone learn from the presentation that was new, anything exciting?

Like others have said, I'd be happy if they just left a camera focused on one end of a court during a regular practice. Even half a practice. Let Pat & staff know they're on camera and run some drills -- minus any kind of strategy/playmaking discussion.
I wanna see guard quickness, comparative heights & builds, shooting form, and overall athleticism -- stuff that you'd get from 10 minutes of Kenner.
As it stands, we're gonna have to wait a couple of weeks into the season before we can accurately complain about lineups & playing time. Right?

I thought I heard that last year was a red shirt year for Wilson from the President of the Hoop Club.

Yeah, I'm (along with other people on here) totally gonna wait weeks into the season to complain about lineups. Definitely, totally will, especially if we don't play well early on.
