For standing up for his son? Standing up for what? Does he feel in this current climate ripping on the coach is what’s needed? So the kid didn’t get nominated to go to an all star game. But I guess that’s the social media world for you. I think your confusing who posted that long diatribe...that wasn't his father...

Looks like the ball was dropped in terms of getting Riley considered for the honor. Legitimate gripe as he deserved serious consideration

That’s a weak move by the old man. I don't understand why you think whomever wrote the tweet did something wrong. If Jordan was anywhere close to deserving of the nomination his people should've done everything they could to make it happen. Based on everything that I've read Jordan has been the best or one of the best players in his region. To make my position clear, Ewing should make sure that Juggy has at least 1 vote for a All-BE team.

That’s a weak move by the old man. His dad didn't write that post. I do like the response his dad had to the tweet. Dont think the Riley camp is dwelling on it too much.

If the old man didn’t write that, scratch most of what I said.

That’s a weak move by the old man. I think the father did the absolute right thing getting out early on this one and saying that he would talk to the coach about the coach dropping the ball on the nomination. He also used it as a learning/motivational opportunity for his son. It could have snowballed into something worse via social media, and Jordan still has to play for this coach. I admire what the father did here.

My guess is that the coach didn't recognize his responsibility (and that's not meant to be an excuse)...he blew it, but I doubt seriously that it was intentional...likely just a bad oversight...But I love the drive to continue improving, and showing those results on the court as a Hoya...my suggestion...work on the 3 point shooting to become as consistent with that stroke as possible so that if they back off, its lethal, and if they close in you blow by and attack the rim...

Legitimate gripe as he deserved serious consideration It is a shame that Riley missed out on what sounds like would have been a well deserved honor, but my guess is that it was most likely just an oversight by the coach or just not knowing it was something the coach is supposed to do. I don't know anything about this coach, but in many cases the procedures for nominating a player for awards like this is not always something that the coach/athletic director is even aware of. High school coaches change jobs all the time and sometimes a new guy comes in and he is not aware of some of the things they should/need to do to help promote and get his players recruited. In this case Riley is so good that getting recruited was not an issue, but maybe the coach needed to submit some paperwork to nominate him for this award and he was just unaware. I feel bad for the young man, but it sounds like he and his family are taking the high road, which is admirable.

I feel bad for the young man, but it sounds like he and his family are taking the high road, which is admirable. Jimenez has been Brentwood’s coach for almost 20 years. They take a lot of pride in the program. Lester Quinones wanted to sign his NLI to Memphis at Brentwood’s gym but they wouldn’t let him because he left for a private school. Riley wouldn’t have been selected but should have been nominated as a top 2 player in the state behind AJ Griffin. Jimenez means well, is definitely loyal to and appreciative of Riley for staying, and puts in effort well beyond the value of the stipend he is given to coach basketball after his guidance counselor duties. But that rant is not entirely wrong. This oversight is somewhat emblematic of the gap of resources and knowledge between private schools and most public schools. Montverde pays Kevin Boyle 6 figures to only coach. It’s easy to see why players think they need to leave their public school for better coaching, facilities, advice, competition. Look at Georgetown’s roster last year: only Mac and Malcolm from public schools.

I am ecstatic that Jordan Riley chose Georgetown. It is my opinion that he will prove to be better than even those who are high on him think. As a (former) Long Islander it occurred to me that we haven't had a player from there in quite some time (Im talking nominal L.I-Nassau/Suffolk as opposed to geographical-B'klyn, Queens included). Granted, it's not a hotbed but I am so grateful that Coach Ewing and staff dove in on Riley. Seems like we don't typically recruit there.
My sense wasn't wrong. I am happy to be corrected but I believe the last LI'er was Mark Gallagher (Archbishop Molloy) from Lynbrook; played only the '72-'73 season on Varsity, played Frosh the year before. Before him, the great Dick (Ziggy) Zeitler (Archbishop Molloy) from Seaford '69-'71-also a very good baseball player. An outstanding player was was Bruce Stinebrickner (St. Agnes) from West Hempstead '65-'68.

Northport 58-56 over Riley and Brentwood. Brentwood's season is over.

Seems like they really tried to make Riley uncomfortable on the offensive end. He still ended up w/29 points, but certainly a disappointment for them since they had beaten Northport by 28 in last year's county final.
To be clear - not saying anything about Riley in this post at all. Just read a news account and did not watch one second of the game. My reference to the disappointment was regarding the team.
Agree with those of you who assume that this will leave a bad taste in Jordan's mouth, though, and will serve him well as his career moves forward.

Huh? I thought he was supposed to be a very high level defender...that comment is a bit disconcerting...
