“Really close – really close,” his father Monty told The Post. “Love Mike Anderson, love Van Macon, love TJ Cleveland. They were great. Don’t think this was an easy decision. As I’m talking to you know, we’re still thinking, ‘is this the right decision.’” Riley said Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing and assistant Louis Orr were in constant contact with him and he liked the campus after getting to see it a few weeks on a road trip. Brentwood assistant coach John Garcia is familiar with Orr, playing for him at Seton Hall. Riley came to a decision on Sunday, yet most of the week experts were picking St. John’s as his choice, which made him think the Johnnies would have been the popular choice.” “Would you go to a team that already has a quarterback and you want to be the quarterback?” Monty Riley said, referring to the presence of soon-to-be St. John’s freshman Posh Alexander. “That was one of the deciding factors.” Long Island’s Jordan Riley picks Georgetown over St. John’s“For Brentwood (N.Y.) combo guard Jordan Riley, it was important to pick a college where he could have the opportunity to showcase his abilities early and be in a system that would allow him to flourish; but just as important for Riley was who he’d be showcasing those abilities under. On Friday, Riley opted to learn under the tutelage of NBA Hall of Famer and Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing. Riley picked the Hoyas over Kansas, St. John’s, Florida State and Connecticut. When asked how big a factor his relationship with Ewing was in his decision, Riley said, “Very big.” “Not only was he calling me the whole time, when I go there, I can trust him as somebody that can look after me,” Riley said. “He was like ‘You made my day!’ He was happy.” Ewing’s emotion is understandable considering Riley’s potential. Riley is a super athletic guard who scores on all three levels efficiently and delivers momentum shifting “wow” plays.” Elite 2021 Guard Jordan Riley Commits to Georgetown

He did an interview with SI, sounds like Ewing busted his tail on this one

Great job by the coaches, I hope everyone can give them props on this one. Love these silent recruitments. This will be a great replacement for Blair.

Excellent get from the coaches involved. This is absolutely huge. I absolutely love Riley as a player and a prospect. He's got a good form on his jumper, he is an incredible athlete, he's got good height to his pull up jumper and I think he can score it well at all three levels, with more reps on his jumper. He's got tons of potential and I absolutely love this move! Excellent get, coach. I did not think we had a chance with Riley. This is very exciting news. This is the early pickup we've all been talking about, especially once that ranking goes up. This is very exciting. Well done, Coach Ewing and Coach Orr. This is great news.

Excellent news! Great job by the coaches. Welcome to the Hilltop, Jordan!
One question: Everywhere I've seen Jordan's name, even before committing to us, I see reference to him being under-ranked and that he'd have shot up the rankings if there was a summer circuit. Without the circuit, when do rankings get re-done? And where is Jordan expected to be ranked?
Seems both our commits are expected to be higher ranked the next time. I know rankings don't matter in how they play or wind up their careers, but if we have two Top 100 commits instead of even two top 150 commits, the perception of our recruiting is much better, the momentum & morale around the program is better, and I've have to think it'd have at least a subtle influence on other recruits. So I'm just hoping that boost comes soon for both Beard & Riley. Regardless, excited to have them both. Best start to a class that Pat's had by far.

Nice work by the staff here. Have seen several pieces written on him saying he's got room to grow and was a potential breakout candidate had there been a summer circuit this year, so that is encouraging. Judging only from the few highlights I've seen, I think his athleticism is a bit overstated; closer to above-average vs. elite. But, I like the fact he appears to be physically mature; we need more guys like this that can start delivering blows in conference play vs. absorbing them and wearing down.
Been very hard on Ewing and the staff (and justifiably so), but giving credit where it is due: here's one example where Orr's network seems to have paid off. Kudos to him and Patrick for closing the deal. Building a recruiting pipeline into NY/NJ is never a bad thing. Securing a commitment early in the class is also far preferable to scrambling late in the cycle.
Those quotes from his father in the Post are somewhat eye-opening. A little bit disconcerting to hear he's already second-guessing his son's decision. Also curious that he views his son as the incoming QB for a team that doesn't have one. I completely agree we don't have that go-to-guy right now, but I think it's a bit much to expect his son to come here and be The Guy on Day 1. I do appreciate that Jordan has the confidence to come in and try to be that guy, though. Ultimately, we need leaders to gain followers.

Based on just this highlight though, that's definitely closer to elite athleticism then average. Not everyone can pull off a 2-handed block from behind.
