www.bizjournals.com/portland/news/2020/05/28/longtime-nike-board-member-john-thompson-to-retire.htmlHope this is nothing more than he wants to wind down and our relationship with Nike is still good. I think one of the few selling points we have with recruits is our Jordan Brand affiliation which after the Jordan doc, might only be a stronger pull. I know we had the issues with Nike 2-3 years ago, but I assume things have been smoothed over since then. For better or worse, jerseys, shoes, etc are part of the desirability of a school for a recruit so I think remaining a Nike / Jordan school is still somewhat important.

Without knowing the ins and outs of the sneaker world, purely from a fan perspective, I would prefer to be a Nike, but not Jordan brand school. Jordan contributed to beating us and preventing us from getting another championship, and yet we have to have his logo all over our stuff? I know it may appeal to kids, and it's not a big deal, but it's always kind of felt weird to me. My guess is this is just John Thompson Jr. winding down commitments. We know he was sick for part of last year, and my guess is he still has a strong relationship with Nike, even if he's not on the board. While the Georgetown brand is not what it once was, I still think there's value to a company like Nike in sponsoring Georgetown (along with the hundreds of other schools they sponsor).

I tend to agree. I’d rather us just wear the normal Nike swoosh, but I do know the Jumpman logo and wearing Jordans does have some appeal and right now think we are among only like 7-8 schools who are part of the Jordan group (UNC, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, Marquette); not bad company to be in.

JT2 is still with Nike and just scaling down on working commitments it seems.
Nike and Jordan are one in the same Being attached to either is a good thing.
