The Sounds of Silence: this board's condemnation of people attacking police and their assets, of people burning down buildings, of masses rushing in with shopping carts to hold the merchandise they are stealing, of people desecrating monuments and churches, of people throwing bricks at or threatening representatives of the media, etc.
There is one poster that routinely quotes statutes Trump or other members he considers to be enemies have violated. But, nothing on today's violence.
Are you posters only interested in justice when it advances your agenda? Isn't it possible loudly and wholeheartedly to support peaceful demonstrations while, at the same time, voicing criticism of the violent acts?
It's okay to be up in arms against racial injustice, in fact we should demand it of our local, county, state, and federal officials - but also in each of our daily lives. Treat each person with respect and dignity, as God would have us do. But, strongly oppose and condemn those who violently break our laws.

For the most part, the police have been the aggressors and they have especially taken cues from your dear leader about the way the media is to be treated. I agree that the looting is stupid and should be condemned but, really, that’s small potatoes compared to the incident that kicked this all off and the thousands upon thousands that preceded it. You might want to consider why you are more outraged by the destruction of property than you are hundreds of years of systemic racism.

I’m that police officer’s defense, that little girl could have given him a real ouchie if she decided to pinch him with her barrettes.

If we're going to talk about "The Sounds of Silence" How long have you known about racial injustice, oppression, and mistreatment of minorities in this country? How many unarmed minorities have you seen had their lives stripped from them at the hands of law enforcement, or in the case of Ahmaud Arbery wanna be law enforcement for no other reason than their skin color being deemed a threat? How many times have you seen their economic situation, and job opportunities negatively effected by their skin color? If you know these things exist, and have existed for a long time. Why don't you lift your voice now to help us get free?

Just in case the sociopath seeks to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807. nvoking the Insurrection Act remains a rare occurrence in U.S. history, used in the most extraordinary circumstances, such as the complete disregard for enforcing federal civil rights laws or massive unrest in the nation’s second largest city. Despite the Insurrection Act’s invocation in Los Angeles, it has not been used in 28 years. And it was not invoked in Ferguson, Missouri. Nor was it invoked in Baltimore, Maryland during the riots that occurred in the aftermath of the death of Freddie Gray, who was killed by police officers in 2015. Nor was it invoked in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Finally, it remains unclear whether the invocation of these two provisions are subject to judicial review. Courts have historically been reluctant to wade into these complex federalism and separation of powers waters and will certainly be wary of providing specific guidance.

Article by SFS Professor Daniel Byman Accelerationism is the idea that white supremacists should try to increase civil disorder—accelerate it—in order to foster polarization that will tear apart the current political order. The System (usually capitalized), they believe, has only a finite number of collaborators and lackeys to prop it up. Accelerationists hope to set off a series of chain reactions, with violence fomenting violence, and in the ensuing cycle more and more people join the fray. When confronted with extremes, so the theory goes, those in the middle will be forced off the fence and go to the side of the white supremacists. If violence can be increased sufficiently, the System will run out of lackeys and collapse, and the race war will commence. www.lawfareblog.com/riots-white-supremacy-and-accelerationism

That speech we just got. Wow, in a normal country, the president would be under serious pressure to resign.

Well, it’s pretty clear what’s on the mind of the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and it sure ain’t equal rights.

That speech we just got. Wow, in a normal country, the president would be under serious pressure to resign. You can never expect anything from Congress. As long as they've got their 40% from Fox Nation, it justifies what George Will today called their Vichy-like collaboration. Drop that to 35 percent and suddenly it's their feet in the electoral frying pan. That's when Congress responds, much like the summer of 1974. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/no-one-should-want-four-more-years-of-this-taste-of-ashes

The Episcopal bishop of DC – who oversees the DC church Trump just stopped at – tells the Washington Post she is "outraged" and that neither she nor the rector was asked or told… “that they would be clearing with tear gas so they could use one of our churches as a prop.
“I can’t believe what my eyes are seeing tonight...what on earth did we just witness? The abuse of sacred symbols”

If there is no election, his term ends on Jan. 20, 2021. As would the Vice-President. By the Constitution (assuming that still counts), if there is no President of Vice President the sitting Speaker of the House accedes to the office.

If you continue to support him as he uses your religion as a prop for his own personal gain, putting aside what he did to get to the church, you have chosen Trump over your religious integrity. There is little doubt that Trump is has no inclination towards Christianity except as it relates to his goals. If hell exists, it’s going to be a sea of people in MAGA hats.

There is little doubt that Trump is has no inclination towards Christianity except as it relates to his goals. If hell exists, it’s going to be a sea of people in MAGA hats. And I predict that number is going to grow because of these events. And that is in no way a good thing. People who have been struggling to attempt to reopen their businesses now find them destroyed. Kareem writes eloquently, but I"m sorry, that is inexcusable. The other night a young man was interviewed on a local news channel. He owns a clothing store on Fairfax Avenue here in LA. Every bit of merchandise, $500,000 in clothing, was stolen from his store. The man is black. Nice job, people. LZ Granderson, a columnist for the LA Times, wrote a very interesting article the other day. He's a well to do gay black man. He was driving home one night and found himself surrounded by police as he pulled in front of his house - obvious racial profiling of the worst kind. He called his husband, who is not black, on his cell phone, and the other man came out and cleared everything up. These sorts of events are horrible and all too common. But I'm sorry, they don't excuse the looting and the fires, and I'd be willing to wager that many, if not most, of those committing acts of violence couldn't give two craps about George Floyd or other victims. So I guess I find myself agreeing more than disagreeing with Ed. Strange bedfellows.
