NASCAR banned confederate flags at events and at properties. This should go over well with that group.

He’ll be the next Republican nominee for president.

Nancy Pelosi is quite right in calling for the removal of statues from the Capitol.
Funny how Grand Wizard Byrd did not make her list.
Was just rewatching Joe Biden’s heartfelt Eulogy for that renowned Klansman...

Nancy Pelosi is quite right in calling for the removal of statues from the Capitol. The selection of honorees at Statuary Hall is not her responsibility, but the governors of the respective states.

Understood. However, I respect her call to remove statues. I just don’t understand her cut off line for who needs to go.

These remarks are on point. They also highlight why this movement isn't just about policing reform... “He highlights what racism is from a systematic perspective. He’s a full legislator but beyond that, professionally, he’s a doctor. When we talk about the health disparities that happen because black folks aren’t believed when they’re actually hurt, they aren’t given the treatment that they need. Do you think that someone who acknowledges the ‘coloreds’ is going to give the love and care that people need when they come through those doors?” said Howse, who attended the hearing.

Isn't Speaker Pelosi calling for the removal of confederate statues in the capitol? As horrible as Byrd's klan membership was, he wasn't part of the confederacy... Let's be honest here and acknowledge the fact that if Speaker Pelosi did include the racist pasts of everyone who has a statue in the Capitol there wouldn't be many left afterward... Did you really watch Joe Biden's eulogy to Byrd?

I am In favor of removing all statues. Flawed humans should not be the subject of graven images or monuments. Not only watched it; I read it. It was followed by President Obama’s eulogy to the Klansman as well.

They could remove Byrd's today it wouldn't matter to me in the least... I'm just pointing out what you already know which is that Speaker Pelosi was only talking about confederate statues being removed from the capitol, I doubt very much she stopped "short" so as not to include Byrd...

Then we really don’t have an argument.
They should all go.
We should honor the acts of men and women not the actors.

Plus AFAIK, all the statues of Confederate traitors were selected by their respective states in the 20th Century as the Confederacy sought to spread its historical myths of the "War of Northern Aggression." Not dissimilar to how the Confederate flag was primarily adopted in the 1950s to signal Southern opposition to civil rights. Since it is illegal in Germany to display the Nazi flag, the far right there have used the Confederate flag as a substitute. Trump can't afford to alienate the portion of his white supremacist base which is why Bunker Boy won't rename US military bases.

Based upon what you just said, you cannot be in favor of a statue to a Grand Wizard of the Klan remaining in the Capitol. If the Confederate flag needs to go (and it does) them any statute, monument or honor to a Klansman needs to go with it, right ?
