Too many moving parts to properly assess if this is a short-term response, or semester-long. It is definitely the right decision in any event. Dr. Fauci testifying on the Hill "it will get worse before it gets better" along with Hoya Dr. Redfield. Suddenly, Trump calls emergency meeting of Task Force at WH cutting their testimony short. Top Trump administration officials on Wednesday cut short their testimony at a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on the response to the coronavirus, with the White House saying they were needed at a meeting focused on the spreading virus. Committee chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) said at the start of the hearing that it would end an hour and a half early because President Trump called an "emergency" meeting with the witnesses, who are leading the government's coronavirus response. Coinicidence? 😀😀 Meanwhile, moron Ron Johnson, Chair Homeland Security seeking subpoenas re: Hunter Biden. Yup, he's got his priorities straight. Any of you Hoya Trump cultists wish to defend?

I'd like to say that I have confidence in how the Administration is handling the pandemic (and the WHO has now declared Coronavirus as the same), but....
We are seeing true leadership at the state level, specifically from Governor Inslee in Washington and Governor Cuomo in New York. Oh, if we could only have the same from the White House, but President Trump is more concerned, apparently, with minimizing the risk to try to keep the stock market from tanking and imperiling his one positive issue to raise during his re-election campaign.

Good for Georgetown for taking this seriously.

Will they return? This is not an entirely rhetorical question. Word I have heard is this is for a minimum of 2 weeks and there will be ongoing reassessment. Honestly, I cannot see the 'environment' improving to the point that they would have students move back in at a time that would be reasonable to complete the semester (disclaimer: I am an Infectious Disease Physician and the parent of a current student that lives on campus). Answers to many questions: www.georgetown.edu/coronavirus/frequently-asked-questions/I had heard from some friends at the game on Saturday that the University had already requested that any student traveling abroad for spring break not come back to campus for 2 weeks (but keep up with their course work). So the news today simply extends that request to all students.

This is worth a read from an Italian doctor. I know somebody posted a link to a Facebook post in the Georgetown Refunding Money For Tickets, but I think the poster got the wrong takeaway from it. The point was “be reasonable and don’t horde resources including healthcare” rather than “go about your lives as usual including going out in large crowds”. But I digress. It’s astounding that the mortality rate in Italy, according to this account, stands at nearly 6%. www.newsweek.com/young-unafraid-coronavirus-pandemic-good-you-now-stop-killing-people-opinion-1491797

Trump declared a national emergency to procure funds for his nonsensical border wall. He won't do the same for a national public health crisis. He will go down in history as the worse President in American history. What a malignant moron - as are those who continue to drink his toxic Kool Aid “The president isn’t persuaded because [an emergency declaration] contradicts his message that this is the flu,” said a Republican who speaks to Trump. www.politico.com/news/2020/03/11/trump-emergency-declaration-coronavirus-message-125902

Smh...
Fact check: Trump makes two big errors and two big omissions...in announcing his own travel policy...in a scripted Oval Office address to the nation:
About 11,000 tests have been conducted in the US, compared to about 10,000 per day in South Korea.
Depressing.

Administration gets a zero on testing. South Korea up to 226,000 tested for a nation with 50 million people. 15% of the population with 20 times the number tested. Ridiculous.

Not to mention that speech last night. Geesh. It’s amazing that that speech was in any way “prepared”. He got literally every important point wrong: goods would be prohibited for Europe, all travel to and from Europe (except U.K.) would be restricted, all Coronavirus related healthcare would be free, etc. He had to take to Twitter later to clarify as if the majority of the population follows him on Twitter let alone has Twitter. His blaming and xenophobia continued. This has laid bare his incompetence on a grand scale. How anyone could see that last night and think “this is the right guy for the job” is well beyond me.

At this point, nothing about the guy would shock me. I’m sure that he needs glasses to read (or see the words) but is too vain to use them which leads to a lot of his ad libbing and absurd gaffes.

Head of Harvard Global Health Institute:
"'Our response is much, much worse than almost any other country that's been affected' ... He uses the words 'stunning,' 'fiasco' and 'mind-blowing' to describe how bad it is. 'And I don't understand it.'"
