A friend and colleague is an ID doctor in Springfield, MO who has been attacked for trying to convince people to get vaccinated to prevent this. He’s now underwater in avoidable serious illness and death. Catastrophic stupidity there and elsewhere. Thanks to you and your friend and all of those like you who continue to work your asses off to save lives, even those who are unwilling to do the bare minimum to protect themselves.

GOP death cult. In the last two weeks of June, the United States averaged between 11,250 and 13,500 new coronavirus cases per day — the lowest numbers since the virus began spreading widely across the country in early 2020. As of Saturday, it was 31,464 cases per day. With multiple vaccines widely available, this rise was entirely preventable. The backsliding is due in part to Republican politicians and right-wing commentators who have spread misinformation about the virus, as well as colleagues too scared to confront them. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/07/18/us-is-backsliding-covid-19-republicans-seem-have-decided-thats-acceptable/Terminal stupidity. Well done, "Republicans."

Sociopath doubles down on his death cult misinformation. Hope our HoyaTalk Republicans are proud of their poltical affiliation! “People are refusing to take the Vaccine because they don’t trust his Administration,” the former president said in a statement Sunday, referring to President Biden. “They don’t trust the Election results, and they certainly don’t trust the Fake News.” There you have it: Trump is telling his supporters that they are correct not to trust the federal government on vaccines, because this sentiment should flow naturally from their suspicion that the election was stolen from him. Expressing the former has been magically transformed into a way to show fealty to the latter. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/07/19/vile-new-trump-gop-claim-about-vaccines-suggests-trouble-ahead/

It’s “asinine” to think there is any correlation between political affiliation and vaccine hesitancy!! It’s equally “asinine” to think anything politicians say would have any influence on anyone!! Also, Trump won in a landslide and QAnon is the truth!

Red states’ vaccination rates are lagging behind those of blue states, with predictable results. While Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) may pretend to be baffled about what’s happening, it’s not rocket science. Anti-vaccination paranoia, MAGA covid-denial (especially rampant in White evangelical communities) and weak state government vaccination programs all contribute to a situation in which red states lag the rest of the country in getting shots in arms. Where vaccination rates lag, infections, hospitalizations and death rates will eventually spike. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/07/19/two-americans-one-healthy-one-deliberately-risk/

Meanwhile, the conflation of two unrelated things takes a baffling level of stupidity to buy. They're not taking it because they're stupid enough to believe Trump and those of his ilk over people that are experts in their fields. Trump is an expert in Trump and convincing egregiously stupid people to buy his BS.

This can't be right. It's "asinine" to draw any correlation between vaccination rates and political affiliation, right? The problem, it’s been said, is that we live in two Americas, riven by both ideology and immunology: In blue America, vaccination rates are standing up just fine; in red America, they’re slouchy and exposed. Indeed, the latest vaccine numbers show that 17 states have now provided at least one dose to more than 60 percent of their population—and every single one of them voted for Biden in the last election. Another 16 states are struggling to reach a rate of 50 percent; all but one of those went for Donald Trump. on.theatln.tc/4Ait5vl

I am silly enough to believe that their consciences have finally won out. That's probably completely wrong, but I would like to believe it.

Reap what you've sown hateful dummies. Take as few smarter people with you as possible. We're at capacity with regard to morons and bigots. Imagine a world where one thinks a political affiliation is more important than the health and safety of yourself, your family and your neighbors. Call your ideology whatever you like. You're egregiously stupid and terrible people to boot. If you still support this faction because of taxes or your fake allegiance to "pro-life," buy a new mirror to look into because your old one is, clearly, broken. The "Republican" party only actually cares about the taxes part. If you haven't gotten that memo, I'm pretty sure you're beyond help.

“They cry. And they tell me they didn’t know. They thought it was a hoax. They thought it was political."
So much of this could have been avoided if folks would have just done the right thing. Instead they chose to put politics over saving lives.
