If the season ends up actually happening, Georgetown will have a huge leg up on the competition. We're used to playing in an empty home arena. And if the arena staff put up cardboard fans around the lower bowl, they will look just as animated as our fans in sections 110-112, 100-101, and 121 the last five years or so. 😷 As a season ticket holder in section 101 I take strong exception to this!!

Meaningless but hell, we need all the hype we can get for this season - it's DEAD in here for this time of year. bustingbrackets.com/2020/10/12/ncaa-basketball-ranking-all-357-d-i-head-coaches-for-2020-21-season/BEast: 163: Leitao (shockingly high) 117: Pat (BUY) 91: Travis Steele 80 LaVall Jordan 64: Steve Wojwhatevvertheghuckski (Really? Do they not realize how much MU will struggle this year? SELL) 61: Kevin Willard (SELL - see above, won't cope w/o Powell) 60: Mike Anderson (way too much credit for ancient history at UAB and Missou) 53: Ed Cooley (TBD, but I don't think so) 47: Dan Hurley (somehow, "modest improvement" over two years warrants a whole lot of slurping. SELL) 36: Greg McDermott (Whatevs) 8: Jay Wright (BUY - should be Top 5, maybe Top 3) Top 10: Chris Beard - TTU Boeheim (HA! Sell!) Jay Wright Tony Bennett Mark Few Bill Self John Calipari Tom Izzo Roy Williams Krzyzhead

Dave Leitao is coaching for his job. The next two years may be the end of the line for him with a new AD. Leitao's contract renews as Shaka Smart's contract winds up at Texas. Patrick Ewing is not coaching for his job but his record is still difficult to put above #6 or #7. Here are the four coaches over the past three years: Wojciechowski: 63-36, 29-25 Big East, 2 NCAA, 1 NIT Jordan: 59-40, 26-28 Big East, 1 NCAA, 1 NIT Ewing: 49-46, 19-35 Big East, 0 NCAA, 1 NIT Steele (2 seasons): 38-29, 17-19, 0 NCAA, 1 NIT

3/5 CBS analysts pick Hoyas last. It's been a tumultuous few years for Patrick Ewing at Georgetown, and turning around his alma mater seems more difficult than ever. In addition to several in-season departures last year, he's now tasked with replacing star guard Mac McClung, who transferred this offseason to Texas Tech, and Omer Yurtseven, the 7-foot big who forfeited his college eligibility and entered the NBA Draft. Ewing has some talented options on the roster to turn to including a pair of seniors who averaged double figures in scoring last season, Jahvon Blair and Jamorko Pickett, but it could be tough sledding once again as the Hoyas rebuild on the fly. www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/big-east-expert-picks-2020-21-preview-villanova-will-face-challenge-from-creighton-for-conference-title/

Jared Bynum, Providence: A pass-first point guard who loves to set the table, Bynum should be a welcome addition to a Providence perimeter that already features David Duke and A.J. Reeves. The 5-10 point guard averaged 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists as a freshman at St. Joe’s in 18-19.
Noah Horchler, Providence: Well embedded moles in Rhode Island are already raving about Horchler, who averaged 16 points and 9.3 rebounds at North Florida prior to redshirting last season. Expect this 6-8 forward to be a potential starter for the Friars next season.
Antwann Jones, Creighton: Creighton’s ceiling was lowered for next season when it lost Ty-Shon Alexander to the NBA, but that also opened the door for Jones. The 6-6 wing should thrive in Greg McDermott’s offensive system and could potentially double his scoring average (4.7 points) from two years ago when he was at Memphis.

Not sure where to put this so I stuck it here... When it was done right, this offense was fun to watch... Sorry, for me it was agony to watch!... A three-ring circus...too predictable, too limited, especially with very limited players. I disagree with your assessment

A three-ring circus...too predictable, too limited, especially with very limited players. I disagree with your assessment I agree. That stuff worked for a few years but the BE coaches were too smart and the BE opponents were too talented not to figure out how to defense it. And then yes, it was torture to watch.

How I envy this type of coverage for pre-season practice.

Hard to image that neither Powell or Howard got drafted last night. Both of them proved they are high level scorers in a big time conference, but I guess that was still not enough. I saw a lot of guys drafted last night that never performed in college like either of these two guys, but the players picked seemed to have better "measurable". Makes you think that if you don't have the height/length/elite explosiveness that you are not getting much of a chance in the league. Does not bode well for guys like Akinjo or McClung making it to the NBA

Does not bode well for guys like Akinjo or McClung making it to the NBA The fact of the matter is there are over a million kids bouncing a ball worldwide but there are only about 430 to about 480 jobs in the NBA and probably about 90% of those jobs are already filled for years to come. A whole lot of talented college hoopers will not get drafted each year. It's great to play for a collegiate team but it better to get your college degree because you might need to get a regular job when you're done bouncing the basketball.

Akinjo has that relationship with Lillard but what I think these kids miss is how hard it is to make it and stick in the NBA. Lillard is 6'2 with elite athleticism and can shoot almost from half court. For Powell & HOward, they are getting degrees and greatly improved over four years. They will be part of those college communities for the rest of their lives. They weren't missing an NBA pay check, they were missing G league buses and possibly being on the outs after a few years of drifting along. From a recruiting strategy, I would almost focus on those elite college kids and bypass the elite measurable kids. UW got nothing out of that McDaniels kid. They got a very good year out of Stewart but still it does nothing for that program in terms of long term development. The way to win at the college level is exactly the blueprint that Villanova has followed. They are getting higher level talent now, but Bey was not a two and done prospect coming out. That was his ceiling and he reached it. Along the way he helped them win a ton of games. You gotta have kids in your system for two years minimum and if a kid explodes early, you have the benches full developing a replacement.
