Are the Hoyas required to play home games at the Capitol One Arena even in the absence of fans? Per the article in the tweet: The Big East source said games would be played at normal campus and pro sites “with normal 24-hour charter travel” for games. That makes me think that we'll be at Capitol One no matter what. Unfortunately the TV product of playing at McD would not be very good. I hope we'll at least be able to pipe in noise.

If you aren't going to play with fans, what is the benefit of McDonough? Students cannot attend. There will be no home court advantage, at least in terms of fan support or cheering no matter where the game is held, perhaps with the exception of the small number of people permitted to attend. The TV facilities are clearly better at Capital One Center. Now, if you could play at McDonough and save a bunch of money, that might make sense. But, I have no idea what their contractual arrangements consist of. EDIT: A friend reminded me of the terrible lighting at Capital One. So, maybe McDonough would be better after all...

Wouldn’t the practice facility have a better court

Wouldn’t the practice facility have a better court I'm going to guess it doesn't have capability for TV broadcast or can be reconfigured to do so? McD obviously is at least a known quantity for broadcasting.

McD obviously is at least a known quantity for broadcasting. I would think the school/program would want to showcase the new practice facility as much as possible, and the court/lighting should be very high quality (It is brand new). I have no idea what type of facilities/infrastructure the building has to broadcast from, but I would think they have some high level video/communications system in the building already. I am sure they film every practice. It could not be that difficult/expensive for them to add whatever is needed to broadcast a game from there and show everyone that the program has a state of the arts facility for the players. Just a thought.

No inside information, but I think the combination on the contract with Monumental Sports (Capital One Arena) and the Big East's desire for a first class broadcast for Fox would all point to playing downtown and eating lots of facility rental costs. How Georgetown can absorb these deficits is another topic. Practice facilities aren't built for multi-camera setups and the resultant production trucks that would be required to lay cable through the Thompson Center, and what is good lighting for practice may not be for HD TV. While the men's practice center is almost never seen from public view, it doesn't appear to have space for a five camera setup.

Would we be off the hook for paying rent at Cap One this season if we choose McD?

From a health perspective, you play in the biggest room you can with maximal dispersion.

But by game three or four, word will be OUT and there will be a run on the Bank's ticket office

Please: PLAY IN McDONOUGH!!! I couldn't agree more. First off you would have very easy access for all students and no excuse not to be at the games. McD would be packed with a pep band and wild students making it a great home court advantage. But most importantly, you would have a participation feel for the students. Small gym, everyone seems to be in the game. I recall my college days on the other coast and Stanfurd had a gym that seated 2500, while Cal had Harmon Gym (yes, Gym!) that seated just around 6,000. The former has been replaced, the latter expanded and neither has the fan intimacy of the days of yore. It was just wild. Capital One seems to be this massive expanse where seats have to be covered, students just don't seem to make it there except in the very best of years, and the college campus feel for the game is certainly no there. Another vote for McDonough. Unfortunately that McD wasn't expanded in the Thompsen Center expansion. It would have been perfect. If G'town ever got a good football team I am sure the new stadium will look like a genius call. Having the events on campus is soooo important.
