This is why I don’t understand why everyone is down or our program the main ingredients will be Blair , Pickett and Wahab they can give you 15-30 points any game ... then you add the grad transfers and the freshman I love our chances to make the dance ... Because the 3 of them have been consistently inconsistent throughout their respective careers and the two rising seniors have not stood out as leaders on teams needing leadership.

How many times has that trio scored 30 in a game? The trio of Blair, Pickett, and Wahab scored 30+ in 12 games, 20-29 in 10 games, and 0-19 in 10 games (all 10 of these were before February). MSM 8 UCA 23 PSU 14 GSU 10 UT 24 DU 12 UNCG 14 OSU 5 SMU 38 SU 14 UMBC 37 SU 27 AU 25 PC 25 SHU 17 SJU 25 VU 34 CU 21 MU 19 XU 21 BU 18 SJU 34 SHU 32 DU 44 BU 39 PC 39 DU 27 MU 36 XU 37 CU 53 VU 36 SJU 29 So 9 of the last 11 and let’s not forget about what happened with Wahab in the last of those 11. He, like the rest of us, was sitting on his behind watching a huge lead vanish.

Still interesting to see that the trio went for 53 against Creighton.

If Blair could be a bit more consistent with his shot, he would be pretty good. Keep working!

If Blair could be a bit more consistent with his shot, he would be pretty good. Keep working! Consistency is really the key for Blair. He has had good games/nights for the last few years when he gets hot, but he has also struggled at times to contribute when his shot is not falling. If the team is going to have any success this upcoming year, they need Blair and Pickett to both be consistent contributors every game. That may not mean they each need to score 20 each every night, but they both need to play good solid all around games.

I listened to the podcast that Trey Dickerson had with Jessie Govan. Govan and Trey both called Blair a "bucket." It was more than just them trying to gas him up. They were serious about his shooting ability and range. This kid has talent and showed it last season. He's been inconsistent, but really added a driving dimension to his game last year that we hadn't seen before. I think he can be a real weapon if we play off his strengths. I don't see any scenarios where he's healthy and doesn't start. If we are lucky enough that a frosh emerges, I still see Blair getting the starting nod.

Think if we want to have a shot of winning without markedly improving our defense, Blair/Pickett/Q are going to have be something closer to the 50 point range each night if we want to remain competitive.
Not saying it's impossible, but each of the 3 is going to have to take a big step up in productivity/efficiency to achieve that.

If you want to turn around a program, figure out how to get stops. It really is almost as simple as that. The fact that we have been as competitive as we have been with the terrible defensive metrics we've had the last few years is perversely encouraging. We cannot get any worse than we've been defensively. Patrick needs to figure it out. He's got the mentors to do it and I don't just mean Big Coach. He's got Pitino, Thibs, the Van Gundys, etc. Those guys know how to coach defense. I also think Juggy is not a defensive liability out there. He looked tired at times at the end, particularly the loss to SJU in the BET, but he had been playing 40 minutes a night for a while and it showed imo.

And, he had great endurance -- never looked like he had just played 40 minutes. I think both Blair & Pickett are going to have tremendous senior seasons.

What bothers me about Blair, and has bothered me about most of our guards recently (except Mac), is their inability to score off the dribble. Yes I'd like to see his 3 point shooting improve but I think he really needs to improve his ballhandling skills.

You should go back and watch some of the games in early February when Blair got really hot. What I was most impressed with, and honestly shocked by given what we had previously seen, was that Blair was attacking off the dribble for layups and mid range jumpers/floaters. It remains the one significant individual skill improvement that I’ve seen by a Hoya since Ewing became the coach. I know Blair tired down the stretch, but those early February games were more impressive to me than the SMU game given the variety of scoring that he displayed.

We need that proverbial senior level performance from Pickett and Blair. Those kids have put in the time. I hope it pays off.
