Boeheim was wrong to address the situation at all....besides we only lost 3 games and no way was the Duke loss on Akinjo...I put the Greensboro loss on JA but even as poorly as he played for a half if we get a foul on Yurt7's dunk attempt we probably win... Man, that one play prevents 8-2 and an almost certain Top 25 ranking. We don’t lose that game we probably still have LeBlanc and Akinjo and likely still Alexander and Garder, and I doubt we go 3-0 with double digit wins the next three games.

Boeheim's status from a W-L perspective doesn't change the fact that he's been basically a whiny brat throughout his career. I don't think a measure of inappropriate Akinjo-bashing all of a sudden turns him into a truth-teller. And, in a backhanded kind of way, his opinion of addition by subtraction isn't exactly an endorsement of the coach who gave Akinjo the keys. James was awful against UNCG, but anyone who saw the Duke and Penn St. games should be able to read the full text of Boeheim's comments and take them with a large grain of salt.

Part of his rant was him stating that "if Akinjo was still on the team, Syracuse would've won" Are folks on the board promoting & defending his comments ok with those as well?

You are what your track records states, perhaps Boeheim was seeing (on film) that JA would've put GU in a predicament due to his inconsistencies on the floor at times. Also how may like to go off script, and not sticking with Coach Ewing's gameplan?

Given his selfish play in some of the games this year, Akinjo driving with his head down into the teeth of that zone would have been a nightmare. He would have had ten turnovers.

I do not have the hatred thing for Syracuse, or really any rival team, so I can appreciate what Boeheim is saying about Akinjo, and he is 100% right. After these last three games, if anyone disagrees, they are just trying to be a contrarian. And I really do not understand why anyone thinks Boeheim does not have the right to speak his mind. What unwritten rule is he breaking that I am not aware of?
And why are people still protective of Akinjo? The guy quit on Georgetown, never took to Ewing's coaching and was obviously dragging the team down. I was fully on-board the Akinjo train last season, but I am not sure if I have ever misjudged a player this badly in all my years following sports. It is like a dark cloud has literally been lifted from over the team. The energy is so much more positive and the quality of play is so much better now; it is actually quite shocking.

Belated kudos to the board members that correctly identified Akinjo’s “lack of elite level” athleticism. I remember in our collective joy of getting James Akinjo that at least one board member pointed out James did have some weaknesses.
It is that lack of elite hops, quick twitch and lets face it height, that will keep James from being an elite big time college player. Like an NFL veteran that loses that half step James dominated in high school and just can’t be that ball dominant stud in big time college basketball.

All true and his unwillingness to recognize that means he has likely topped out as a player. And he is a quitter.

What poster questioned his right to speak his mind? Maybe it's because I was never fully on the Akinjo train that I'm not as hurt or offended as others are that he left the team... If PE can take the high road so can everyone else imo...

I know that the situation around the program is bad, but I never thought we’d sink to the level of calling Boeheim a “pretty bright” man around here. Is nothing sacred? “Even a broken clock is right twice a day.” - Tony Soprano

Nobody truly loses a game by themselves in basketball. It's a team sport. That said Akinjo was the mystro leading the offense and it's hard not to think he played a large part in the defeat especially after the last three games. I've said it multiple times on here, I thought Akinjo had only played one good game this season. That was Texas. Most on here thought he played poorly. The Texas game was the closest he came to playing like Allen is playing now and was the best performance for the Hoyas team while Akinjo was still on the roster. So even though the PSU game was not particularly close, if our shooters were in a better rhythm it could have been. I have said from October to now that Blair is our best shooter but for 7 games he couldn't hit the side of a barn. The next game after JA leaves he hits a few and then in the SMU game he couldn't miss. As someone who considers himself to be a decent shooter I can attest that your teammates matter. If you don't like each other it can be hard for most to play well. Even if the hostility isn't directly aimed at you.....walking on eggshells causes issues for all people involved....... Complete Agree with you. That's a great point about Blair shooting woes all of a sudden clearing up. While I do believe it was shot mechanics based, I do agree with you regarding team chemistry playing a part. Shooters need to get touches to get going. You know the saying, "shooters got to shoot." It could have been that Blair didn't feel he was going to get touches with the former PG. Also shooters like to get their passes in rhythm and in their shooting pocket. I have no idea if any of these things affected Blair playing alongside JA but it is weird that he couldn't hit the ocean while standing on the edge pier for over a year plus (36 games) to now shooting for 50% (11/22) since his Akinjo left the team...

I don't know about that Sleepy, at least in terms of LeBlanc. His people were on Twitter after that game liking tweets about LeBlanc transferring after he only played 11 minutes. Since his transfer triggered the court search, good chance that Alexander & Gardner would end up leaving also. I also think it was a matter of time with Akinjo. If it wasn't after the UNC-G game, it would have happened at some point...

Glad to see we are back to winning again as much as anyone, but man...let's stop piling on Akinjo.
Akinjo might have been a bad fit,but not a bad kid.
We still don't know why he transferred, correct? Directly from Akinjo's mouth, not some uncle or third-cousin tweet?
Akinjo helped the program.
He thought highly of himself and won games for us last year. Big East Rookie of the year.
This year, the team started off slow. The team was in a funk. Given all that has been going on behind the scenes, it is not a surprise we started off slow.
Boeheim said what he said. Maybe it was backhanded, but it seemed he was backing Ewing and complimenting the players who are still with the team.

If we win that game I don’t see the fall out being that dramatic and spectacular. I also think it was Akinjo and LeBlanc together that triggered people looking into what could have happened and all the media interest. Just LeBlanc transferring wouldn’t have stirred such interest outside the program. Impossible to say but win that game and I think at least Akinjo is still here.

Syracuse isn't very good this year. We take them at 7 or 11 deep. Having said that, I took it more as a courtesy to Patrick because I'm sure Boeheim realizes that Patrick is in a tough spot and he actually really likes Pat and always has. He's not entirely wrong about Akinjo but he did take it a bit far. Better to comment on the situation than individual players but, considering Akinjo wasn't a part of the serious sh*t that has happened and only, apparently, wanted out, I don't take much issue with what Boeheim said. If he believes it, I think it's within bounds only in light of the fact that the evidence on the court seems to support his comments for three games now.

This isn’t a case of a player and program being a bad fit and amicably parting. It’s a case of a player quite literally quitting on his teammates after contributing to putting them in a hole and spending over a year repeatedly ignoring the coaching. He consistently put himself over his team and when he was asked to stop doing that he quit. He isn’t a bad person outside of basketball but he is a bad teammate. And while he won us games last year, he also lost us quite a few as well. The PR behind his decision to quit on his team likely had more of a negative effect from a PR perspective than any good he did for the program.

We were down by 19 to Mount St Mary’s in the second of the season. I think we very likely could have los this game at 11. I think we win by more with 9 though.
