The officiating at the Duke-Georgetown game was so bad that the commercial viability of college basketball could go completely down the drain if something meaningful is not done. I say this because Duke (along with Kentucky, Kansas, MSU, UCLA, Villanova and a couple of other programs )are the marquee attractions of the sport. This game has become a joke with replays being exchanged to the point that no one is going to believe that any Duke game is on the up and up and that any major game could be subject to a similar fiasco. In this circumstance people will start to go the Real Housewives channel, house hunters international or the English Premier league before they tune into a major college basketball game -or renew the sports cable package on their pay tv). So the bizarre and incompetent officiating by the Duke-Georgetown crew needs to be addressed. I am frankly at a loss what to do but I am thinking of something. Could our conference, the BiG East suspend these three refs from working any game within the conference for some extended period-say 2 months or so?

While I agree with some of your sentiment, people have been complaining about officials for years, and people still watch. Frankly, beyond the small segment of Georgetown fans, nobody really cares about the officiating in our game. And the Big East is not going to suspend officials. I am not even sure if these officials even work the Big East?

Beyond the inequities in Friday’s game, the real crime was in their rendering the game unwatchable with the constant barrage of whistles.

I think it is no accident that Duke lost its 20 year Cameron Streak yesterday. I am cynical enough to believe this is a business and the NCAA needed to get the Friday replays pushed off the internet and replaced with the highlights from yesterday and provided a fair game. This shuts us up since any further comment looks like complete sour grapes now.

There was a pretty outrageous and fictitious foul called in the closing minutes. |

The refs are always nudging for Duke, especially at Cameron. No exceptions! 😡
