Has anyone seen Texas play this season. I have been checking out their boxscores but I haven't seen a game...it appears that they have a short bench, with 6 players getting the bulk of the minutes...

I saw some of the Purdue-Texas game, but not much at all. Coleman was a killer from deep and looked very good. Andrew Jones played in some of the minutes I saw and he looked pretty solid. He's an X-factor for that team, as long as he's able to sustain minutes, I think he should be starting. Also, if you don't know his story I suggest you look it up now, but battling back from leukemia and returning to play is incredible. But he's a solid, athletic guard who can play. Their bigs were fine against Haarms, but nothing special. Sims is a good athlete and more of an X-factor type player than a very solid big. LeBlanc should start this game, he matches up well with the Texas interior players.

Their guards are big and physical. They will definitely have the size and strength advantage in the backcourt. Mac, James, LeBlanc and Yurt all need to have solid games on Thursday.

Duck under all screens and dare them to hoist threes.

Duck under all screens and dare them to hoist threes. We are going to have make shots. We aren’t getting to the rim and/or the free throw line against Texas like we did GA State, nor will we get the second chance looks we got. Make or miss Mac, Akinjo, Pickett, and even Mosley have to pull the trigger early and often to get them to respect the threat. Otherwise they will pack the line and they have the size and athleticism to make life difficult. Also will be interesting to see Omer against a bigger team. Some of his rebounds have been nothing more than the fact he’s had multiple inches and pounds on his opponent in these early games. And even with that he has been bullied a little at the rim and has been turnover prone.

This is gonna be interesting for sure, I would start the following; Akinjo, Mosely, Pickett, LeBlanc and Yurt7. Gotta respect their guards and I think this lineup holds them on defense until the first timeout.

I'm wondering if the fact that the team will be consensus underdogs for the first time this season will help them get off to a faster start. Knowing that the other team is regarded as better will hopefully jump start their competitiveness and aggression.

I think this week we will have to play "big boy" basketball in order to win an Empire Classic game. By "big boy" basketball I mean shooting and hitting 3s. No way we win games, like we saw against PSU, when our opponent makes more 3s than we take.

A good game for Blair to shake off his shooting slump/struggles...

A good game for Blair to shake off his shooting slump/struggles... Problem with Blair is he can't shoot off the dribble, can't make his own shot, and shoots from the hip. Has to be wide open. And still can't make 30% of his shots. No Blair isn't the answer. Has to be McClung, Akinjo and somebody else. Need at least 3 decent 3 point shooters on the floor at all times, a la Villanova.

Mac will never not start as a Hoya. I don’t get those folks who prefer Mosely over McClung as a starter. We absolutely need a SG that is capable of scoring in a number of ways. That said, Jagan definitely has a role.

That said, Jagan definitely has a role. Mac has no conscience about his shooting and that is the great thing about him. He was the MVP last night. Meanwhile, our 2nd team is completely impotent. The 19-2 run started with the 2nd team. Mac could carry that 2nd team offensively by himself. I don’t have an objection to starting Mac or using him off the bench. If I had to solve the problem of how to get Josh on the floor to start, I think I would experiment with Mac coming off the bench so that he can be instant offense when that group comes on. The argument for Mosely over Mac as a starter is that Mosely is a ball mover who makes good things happen who can also hit the open shot now when required. Between Akinjo and Yurt, all the needed shots are already on the floor. It is not that Mac isn’t one of the best 5 players on the team, it is the line-ups made when he is coming off the bench might make the whole greater than the sum of the parts.

Mac and Josh are best friends and roommates. They have that telepathy going when on the court together. Jagan is serviceable combo guard with above average defense but is still gun shy to shoot, the last remnants of the old order that doesn’t like to shoot. Mac and Mosley May be a better fit playing together.

Have to take good shots and make a few to do that.
