kenpom.typepad.com/well, actually, that's a bit of a stretch...but essentially the extra possession we gain from having a 7'2" center take and win the tip is worth it statistically...even if he subs out two minutes later.

That's an interesting point. Every little bit counts. Of course, being tall doesn't mean you win the tip. Even if you tip the ball, the people catching are as important as the people tipping at times.

Whoever keeps that site up should be careful to claim that "Pythagorean Theorum" as his own. Its just a take off of the good ol' SABRmetric/Bill James winning percentage predictor.
But - as we've all come to know and understand quite well - statistics aren't useful for ANYTHING, right folks? We should ONLY go by what the human eye tells ya.

I wouldn't worry, Ken Pomeroy is pretty much the most prominent and provocative stat man in college basketball. He has cited numerous times his influences and sources.

Buff-not only should we not trust statistics, but we need to watch out for the human eye as well. Remember, you can only trust the_way's eye. He knows and sees all.
And does Roy even take the jump? I thought Jeff did that last year. And if Jeff is really 6'11, wouldn't it be smarter to have him take the tip, since I'd bet he can out jump Roy.

Jeff is 6'7 or 6'8. Roy is a legit 7' or 7'1"- there is a clear height difference.

Yeah Jeff did take the jump last year for every game. Roy just takes a little too long to jump and with Jeffs athleticism he can get up real fast. We won most of the tips last year, so I am betting Green will be takin tip again this year.
