My sense is that Hoyatalk posters think the starting line-up is pretty set:
James Mac Jamarko...some say Alexander instead Josh Yurtseven
I wonder if anyone else sees a lot more fluidity than that even in the starting line-up.
Mac summer Insta videos look interesting, but if he stumbles maybe we see Jamarko and Alexander.
If James hits a sophomore slump....and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of our sophomores has a slump, Allen is a former starting PG right there ready to go.
This ignores the noise about Myron who may force his way onto the floor.
Maybe not as starters but a line-up of Allen/Mosely/Jamarko/Josh/? could be really interesting defensively. (Not sure how good defensively Yurt is...could he take that spot or might you consider someone else like Wilson?)
I think PE will be able to mix and match a lot more than he has in the past when he had to have certain players on the floor for 30+ minutes. It will be really interesting to see how PE experiments with line-ups. And with the depth he appears to have, it has some interesting potential impact on defensive intensity and pace of play.
This might the first true ‘PE’ team as all the likely starters will be his recruits.

If I had to put money down right now, I'd go with that one. But the 3 spot would be the least secure. Considering where it ended up last year... I could see Pickett, Alexander, Gardner, or Allen starting.
Allen's obv a smaller option, so I guess I could see him displacing Mac temporarily and starting alongside James w/ an actual SF, too.
I don't see any way Josh/Omer aren't 4/5 locks.
The new guys are such unknowns at this point, I can't imagine Pat will have a better grasp on how they fit (re: starting) than us until closer to the start of the year.

One of the first things I think about when evaluating a college basketball team is, do they have plus athletes at every position? For instance, for last year's Hoya team, the answer clearly was no. As good as Jessie was, he was not a superior athlete by any means, and while we may not have had inferior athletes at the 3/ small forward position, I do not think Pickett is really a better-than-average Big East athlete, at least from a movement/ explosion standpoint.
For this year's team, the answer should be a resounding yes. We have several plus athletes at the 5 position, and are adding Alexander and Gardner- whose basketball ability at this level may be TBD, but who certainly look like pretty darn good athletes- at the 3. At the 4, we have Josh, who is a very good/ borderline great athlete, as well as an excellent player. Our guards may not be freaks of nature, but they are plenty athletic. Allen looks like a good addition in that respect as well.
I am really looking forward to watching a team like that play.

I think you have the starters right, the tough part for Pat is distributing minutes. Especially if any of the Cs behind Yurt7 show they can play, the logjam at the 3, and then he's also going to need to figure out who to play at the 4 behind Josh. 1 and 2 seem to be decently set with James/Allen/Mosely at 1 and Mac/Mosely/Blair at 2 but things could change if Pat is fluid or wants to run 3 guard sets.

I have Alexander starting over Pickett. Agree with the rest. Gardner needs minutes at the three as well.

Son just returned from PE camp where they had several opportunities to watch “pickup games” (cough cough). Said Yurt and Alexander were absolutely dominating. Next most impressive were James and Wahab. Said Allen and Mac were somewhat uninspiring. One longtimer absolutely howled with laugher when I asked if he thought Yurt’s addition could balance Govan’s departure.

Because Yurt supposedly is better or worse than Govan? Thanks for the update. I hope that Alexander really is that good.

Because Yurt supposedly is better or worse than Govan? Thanks for the update. I hope that Alexander really is that good. After he finished laughing, his quote was, “Just wait until you see this kid. He was easily the best player on the team last year.” Now, the grass is always greener, and we’re always quick to anoint new potential over known ability. But that’s the same take I’ve gotten on Yurt from 4 different people (3 of whom are longtimers inside the program). Optimism is sky high. Another one of those three just smiled at me and said, “Don’t know which is changing faster - talent or attitude. But it’s about to get special around here again.”

Yurt was 3rd team all ACC as a sophomore, playing in an offense that was a complete mismatch for his game. He has now been coached by Ewing and staff for over a year. Many reports from "insiders" that he has been dominating in practice since last fall. There is plenty of reason to believe that he has developed into a very high level player.

I wonder if Coach Ewing will continue the trend he had last season of essentially doing line change substitutions. From that perspective we would need to speculate what the two lineups would look like. Something like the lineups below could offer some good balance of offense/defense:
Lineup 1 Akinjo McClung Pickett LeBlanc Yurtseven
Lineup 2 Allen Mosley/Blair Gardner Alexander Wahab
I'm kind of assuming Wilson and Ighoefe will get spot minutes this upcoming season while they develop further.

That 2nd team alone would win a game or two in the BE.

It is CROWDED! Biggest challenge, after figuring out the best game combinations, will be to keep everyone satisfied. I was concerned for Pickett and Blair last season. It’s going to be more of a challenge this year.
Practices are going to be fierce especially if Galen and Myron and Q come in with talent and bring their dawg to the fight. Of course, this is exactly what you want.

Is there a published roster somewhere, including the walk-ons? I'm having trouble keeping all the new guys straight.

Thanks, yes, that's at least the names. I think I have to do my homework and make a chart with the sizes, classes, and preferred positions.
