I don't think it's too much of a long shot for the following reasons (though I believe Gonzaga will be hard to top), BUT Aminu is a massive commit that has to have caught the attention of guys like Baldwin and Holmgren. 1) Georgetown would be wide open at the 4 spot next year and has 2-3 centres that can bang (Qudus, Ryan and Tim), opening up Chet or Patrick to fall into the mobile 4 role without being heavily relied on to crash and bang inside constantly. 2) I don't have the link, but the latest recruiting update on Chet had him mention how great a person Ewing is and how much wisdom he has to offer. He also mentioned how Georgetown was bringing out the full cavalry in recruiting him. He spoke very highly of Georgetown's recruitment of him. 3) Georgetown legacy --- coach Thompson is/was a legend. Georgetown basketball is a historic program and Coach Thompson's passing really put Georgetown basketball in the news, in terms of how special a coach/guy he was and how special a program Georgetown is. It almost seems like Aminu committing was fate, as if Big John's legacy had something to do with it. Harmon was clearly a huge fan of Georgetown basketball growing up, and not just the basketball but the academics Georgetown offers. I think the whole legacy aspect was a big part in Aminu committing, and you get to soak in the wisdom of a NBA hall of famer and Georgetown legend. And it's always been a clean program. Chet seems like a really smart kid, I think Georgetown appeals to him. Hoyas fans rip on Pat's coaching a lot (understandable at times I suppose), but these kid's clearly are intrigued by Ewing's stature --- remember Patrick was Chet at one point, the #1 guy everyone wanted. How cool it must be to have that talk with the guy who's been in his shoes before.
Still a long shot, but we were once considered a 3rd/4th dark horse candidate for Aminu. I think we're in the same spot with Chet. IT'S POSSIBLE!

I was one of the people to note that when you are involved with a high enough level recruit, the scholarship table seems to work itself out. But this would start to push it a little bit. As things stand, in order to make room for Aminu, at least one player with eligibility for next season will not be here for the 2021-22 season. To continue to actively recruit Holmgren or Baldwin, Pat has to assume that at least two will be gone. While that is certainly possible, it is a bit trickier to plan for that eventuality this far in advance unless coach already knows who is departing (or is willing to Coach K someone out the door). I'd like to think the latter is not how our program operates.
But sh*t, if one of these dudes did pull on the blue and grey, hoo boy.

Chet has been the recruit from this class I wanted most for over a year. But we just don't have the room for him. On to 2022.

I’d cut two kids trw that will never play another meaningful minute after this season to sign Holmgren. We have room. We might not have traction. I understand that we are building a culture, and that requires trust. But that didn’t count for crap last season when the entire roster bailed. This is also a business - careers, and a ton of money are on the line. Pat’s first job is to put the best product he can on the floor...and that means you make room for Holmgren and any other super stud that wants a spot.

Surprisingly to most, student athletes have already made decisions (right, wrong or indifferent) about their future. In GU case, it works itself out organically.

Guys. It’s almost silly that we are having this scholarship discussion considering how much player movement there is year to year. In Pat’s tenure alone, he’s had at least two kids transfer each year and last year it was double that. If Chet wants to be a Hoya, there will be a spot for him.

After his first two seasons only one guy simply transferred. Two other guys were kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons. Now we can argue over why the lone guy transferred but there is little evidence to suggest that he or the two dismissed guys were separated from Georgetown for the intentional purpose of opening up scholarship space. Also I'll add that these three dudes represent a total that falls short of the average of "at LEAST two kids transfer each year" suggestion regarding Ewing's first two seasons. And when did losing players ever become looked at as ideal?
The third season opened up the floodgates in terms of transfers and that is not something you want happening EVER again. It was less than ideal for the program and the remaining players. It ended the Hoyas' chance of making the tourney last season and in all likelihood this season as well. No one seems to care anymore because of recruits brought in afterwords, but such a wrecking on stability and continuity is counter productive.
As far as Chet is concerned Ewing could have kept him in mind when he made certain recruiting decisions for the 2020 class as well as 2021. He could have held off as long as possible until a decision was made by Chet and then acted accordingly once that decision had been made. 99.9% of college programs, including the more successful ones, have been doing this 99.9% time over 99.9% of the history of college hoops. Why would we not expect or want Ewing to adhere to those same principles and guidelines? I expect it of him because I think highly of his character.

While I am on my high horse let me take a shot at even earlier posts such as the one that talked of our needing a four because Sibley and Billingsley are "raw." First of all that somewhat dismissive view of what Sibley could provide the team next season goes back to my older posts about how this board has this New Toy mentality. They want this toy (recruit) , then they get their wishes but they quickly grow tired of that toy and/or are underwhelmed by it and a potential new toy becomes their hearts' desire. Now granted players often don't live up to expectations and a "new toy" like Holmgren doesn't come along every Christmas season. But there is something to be said about some semblance of fan loyalty and patience, there is something to be said about dancing with the partner you brought (yeah, I flipped it around a little). Can people not make excuses about why Sibley should be so routinely dismissed and instead just come out and admit they want Holmgren because he is by all accounts a far superior player no matter how good Sibley may get? By the way what's so detrimental about a player being a little raw at first before being coached up? Seton Hall and Creighton and Xavier and Providence do this quite a lot.
As for Billingsley how is someone going to categorize him as raw too before he even plays one minute for the Hoyas? This is a new one. Now we are dismissing the toys before they even arrive in favor of a POSSIBLE newer one we want to order. Can we just stop? Already on this site I'm seeing the undervaluing of Jordan Riley now that Aminu is in the fold.
As for the excuse that this is a business, yada, yada, yada, there are good ways to run a business and bad ways. If you skip the ethical part of running a business (or program) because of the justification of the more immediate financial awards (success) that comes with doing so, you may end up paying a greater cost down the road.
Hell, if JT had that mentality he would have recruited Shaq who admitted that Thompson was his favorite coach. Forget the fact that he had Mourning and Mutombo already in the fold, right? Bring in the bigger toy.

It is amazing how we watch the same games & root for the same program & see things in many different ways.
It is possible to like a player, appreciate their commitment to Georgetown, root hard for them yet realize they just aren’t that good. Lack of foot speed, lack of tenacity and prone to making costly turnovers and bad shot selection.
If you roll a ball out in the middle of the court & send 2 guys out for it one of them is going to come away with that ball....I don’t think we have been stocked with players who come away with that ball. I strongly believe the lineups next season will be full of players that come away with that ball. Whether it be sheer determination to rip it away fro: the other player or superior athletic ability to arrive faster we will have that.
The on the ball foot speed and “want to” defensive intensity of Jordan, Aminu and Dante on the perimeter will tighten up very leaky defense.
Saying it again: next year we will be VERY GOOD.

Many of our favorite players took awhile before they found their footing. A recent example was Trawick who despite all the revisionism of late was not a fan favorite at first and was considered by lots of people on this site as detrimental to oncourt success. Now he is such a fan fave that people tend to overrate his performance overall. Point is not everyone is going to click overnight. And for a portion of those players they will never quite click. Some however will. Plenty of folks still had doubts about Hibbert after his first year showing was more successful than anticipated. Many were not convinced the Hoyas could be truly good if he started and got too many minutes. And yet for the following three years he got all the time in the world and the team flourished. Have we've seen enough time of Sibley to make a rational judgment of whether he is going to be any good? I don't think so. And we have seen zero seconds of Billingsley in a Hoya uniform and yet we are in this rush to judgment to justify this questionable idea of running kids out to open up space for more highly regarded prospects (not that either Billingsley or Sibley are necessarily the players people are thinking/hoping would be the casualties of such a running out).

I cannot wait to see more of Sibley. In his limited minutes I thought he looked pretty good. Bring on more of Billingsley too. I happen to be extremely high on Kobe Clark.
I stand by my observations. Pickett will not be drafted. Bile needs to sit he is a turnover machine. Sibley, Clark and Billingsley need to play. Dante Harris is the real deal.
Very excited to see this team play and develop and next year we will be very good.

Pat and the history of Georgetown definitely does not seem like the type of program that would start running off guys. It's not G'Town's style, and goes against everything the program has been about.
But I think it's fair to say you'd maybe expect a center to leave next year, with Ryan coming in. Obviously no idea if the staff ever thinks this way, but I think we as fans wouldn't be surprised if a center decides to transfer to get more playing time. It also wouldn't surprise me if the staff had known beforehand that Carey only intends to stay one year, hence why they pushed for Mohammed --- they already know an open scholarship will be available. Now if we hear over the next few weeks they are continuing a pursuit of Chet or Khalil Brantley (or A.J. Neal) even after getting Mohammed, you'd expect the staff either knows something or has a plan as to how they will make that scholarship situation work. Are they anticipating a transfer (one transfer would be very likely)? That opens up an additional spot for one more recruit.
But yes, I don't see Patrick Ewing/Georgetown being the type who would run players out of town. By all accounts, Pat is a great guy and to my knowledge Georgetown's recruiting has always been done the right way.
