Can i get a way too eary prediction for Chet Holmgren? Dont say Zags please lol
Sorry to tell you but I am going to go with Gonzaga. I don’t see them striking out on both Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren and with the latter having a greater connection to the program in good friend and former school and travel teammate, Jalen Suggs, Mark Few has some things working in his favor. Throw in that Holmgren has already visited officially and the Zags have a leg up compared to others.
I don’t foresee an early commitment and there is still some time for the others to make up ground. Memphis and its pro-style offense have intrigued Holmgren, while North Carolina has done the same. Don’t discount Minnesota either, and while the Gophers have had issues keeping the best in the state, Holmgren’s mom worked for the school and his dad played there.
Georgetown, Michigan and Ohio State round out his final list. Much still has to play out in the coming months as far as his college visits. Gonzaga is in a good spot but it is far from a done deal.

Pat deserves a break of good luck... well, and the program, students and fans too.

Long shot for Georgetown. But we're there -- if there's a positive to take out of the recruiting process, it's that Georgetown is involved with many high level prospects, and has made many of their top lists. Sure it would be nice to grab a top prospect, but it's still a good sign that we're able to catch these kids attention even though we haven't had much on-court success recently. Most other schools in the same predicament wouldn't even be in the discussion.
I do think Pat is close to a breakthrough. He had a pretty good team last year until things fell apart for several reasons that weren't even his fault. Next years class is good, and a couple solid '22 recruits could make for a nice core moving forward. A Chet, Aminu or Baldwin Jr could be the breakthrough he needs. Even still (if he can't land a 5 star) if we add a Whitmore or a Justin Taylor --- and say we grab a A.J. Neal/Khalil Brantley for next year, or Emaryeon McDonald (or Dug McDaniel), that's a good solid core moving forward. There's still a ton of good 4 star and 3 star players out there Georgetown is all over.

I agree that being in the conversation, and making the final lists, for these high level 5 star players is a good sign. Something within the recruiting message is resonating with these players so they stay interested. The real issue is that these high level players want to be somewhere that is going to consistently win and be in the tournament. I think you can tell them that they will be part of the group that puts the program over the top and makes them a yearly contender for league championships and making the NCAA's, but you can only do that for so long without seeing some results. Hopefully they can make some strides this year and next in the win column, and then I think you might see a few of these high level kids commit.

EB: The other school that you have been to is Georgetown, how aggressive is Patrick Ewing with you? CH: He is definitely bringing all of the calvary and all of the coaches’ text me and hit me up. I talk to him all the time. He’s a great guy. He’s full of wisdom. He’s been there, done that and knows what it takes. It was good to be able to be around them in person and the wisdom that he has is pretty much endless.

I can't imagine we've got too much of a shot there, but...anybody who wants those twin towers would actually get it if he ever showed up.

There’s definitely a difference between putting two projects on the court together versus two 4-5 stars.

I’m in. The Pat works in mysterious ways.
Next year, with Pickett graduating and Sibley (and Billingsley) too raw, we desperately need a 4. Chet would get as many minutes as he could handle.

The 4 is the weak spot on the roster imo (followed soon thereafter but point but I think we should be good between Dante and Tyler. Why the hell not push for this kid? Nothing to lose.

I agree that the 4 spot is the weaklink but that could change. Coach is starting to force feed minutes on Sibley so the game could slow down for him by February. He is a talented kid so confidence and strength are all that he needs.

Holmgren is going to get as many minutes as he can handle no matter where he goes to college. He is a #1 pick in the NBA draft the minute he declares, if he can gain a few pounds. Maybe even if he can't gain much weight. 7 footers who move/shoot like Holmgren are the rarest, most valuable of talents. When we recruited Pickett, there were some comparisons to Durant - which turned out to be absurdly optimistic. Holmgren is the kind of talent that you can legitimately compare to Durant. It would be amazing if he decided to come to Georgetown. But access to playing time is not going to be an issue for Holmgren, no matter where he goes to college.

Right- the only question is where this young man decides to spend his one year in college.

We’d have as good as starting 5 as anyone in the country with likely the best frontline in the game.

We’d have as good a starting 5 as anyone in the country with likely the best frontline in the game. We would also have the #1 recruiting class in the country -- which has to be intriguing to Chet. However, it's obviously a massive longshot, and after the amazing news from Aminu, there will no disappointment on my end if Chet goes elsewhere.

No doubt that Aminu seals the class well beyond anyone’s expectations based on the last year. But it could definitely be appealing to Chet that we would be the number one recruiting class and he would start at the 4 with Aminu and a well developed Wahab next year with Mutombo off the bench and everyone else being solid enough that it really would be an amazing 5 and it is a plus to be playing for Ewing as a 7 foot player even if he isn’t a center. But no complaints either way here so just swing away

I’m not sure we had a legitimate shot at Chet....we are closer today however than we were 24 hrs ago.
