I don't see how seton hall, marquette, xavier are picked higher than us. I think our roster composition is better. We finally beat Nova so whatever mental advantage they had over us is gone. I picked Providence last yr to win BE reg season but it remains to see if they can shoot and score...creighton can shoot and score yet our roster's more talented...we went 9-9 when we shoulda been 13-5. Lol the point im making is that while everyone got better...the Hoyas are the team with the highest upside. If/When we play defense this yr...the conf title is for the taking.

We need to win to get noticed. I agree. A couple of early big wins and we become the early season national college bball story. Yes our rep has dropped quite a bit over the years but it's still lurking out there in the minds of media (especially Fox) execs. You can write the headlines now, "Ewing restores the Paranoia, Georgetown on the rise". Of course a flop this year and the knives will be out...

Lol the point im making is that while everyone got better...the Hoyas are the team with the highest upside. If/When we play defense this yr...the conf title is for the taking. I can give you two of them easily, as I have both Xavier and Seton Hall ahead of us. I'd have Georgetown at 4. Xavier returns basically everyone and was one of the top 25 teams in the country to end the season. Xavier is well-coached and brings in grad transfer Jason Carter who should contribute. To end the season, it looked like the team had made a significant jump under coach Steele and now that they have gotten used to that system, they should make that jump. Naji Marshall looked like an absolute star at the end of the season and finally proved he could be the number one option, I think he's easily an all Big-East second teamer, probably even first (I haven't set out a list yet, but Marshall will be in consideration). In a three game stretch, they beat Seton Hall in Seton Hall, Villanova at home and St. John's in Carnesecca. In that span, Marshall averaged 25.3 PPG and ended the season with a 20/20 game in the NIT against a solid Toledo team. Tyrique Jones returns and is a very good inside presence who is capable of dominating games inside. In their final NIT game against the eventual NIT champions, Jones put up 22 and 11. They looked very good to end the season and are just the safer pick. In a two game period against Providence and that same Seton Hall game, both wins, Jones put up 19 and 12 followed by 18 and 15, respectively. If that team can put it together, they can beat anyone in the country. Paul Scruggs is a player I've been very high on and he's someone who will make a jump. As for Seton Hall, I think they win the conference. Myles Powell is the best player in the country, yes the country and he's going to put on a show. I don't think Powell could put up shot from inside the half court line that I think he's going to miss. Cale, Mamu and McKnight return all as players who played roughly 30mpg for them last season. Taurean Thompson should make a jump and take that Nzei role and be able to add something to a team that is on the up. A team that beat Kentucky and Maryland last year is only getting better. Ike Obiagu comes in as their second 7'2" player so, size isn't an issue for them. I haven't heard if they put in a waiver for 16.9ppg transfer from Canisus Takal Molson, but if they did and he can play, that only adds to how good this team can be. As For Marquette, I actually think they bust relative to comparisons, because they usually start hot and fade late into the season. I'd expect these guys to justify it with Markus Howard being a top 5 player in the country and surrounded by guys like John who can defend and transfers Johnson and McEwen. McEwen was a 15ppg scorer) at Utah State and can play, but I feel like it's odd that I haven't heard his name much at all since early in the offseason. They lose huge options and need McEwen and Johnson to step up as a scorer, which is something that at this stage I can't expect with how little I've heard about them. I do agree that the conference title is on the table as of now, but I'd also say that you can't expect these guys to take a significant flyer on a team like ours, when they have good options out there. If this team can defend, the title is in reach, but these teams around us are talented too. It's going to be a fun and chaotic season, where there are still many teams that can compete. I don't think a single team is completely off the table to make the NCAA's this year, except for maybe St. Johns. You need consistency this year and that will be something the team needs to gain that they didn't have from last year. I think that's in part due to defense which should improve with Yurtseven and the jumps that the sophomores will develop over the summer.
