Dear Board Members - it's Jessie Govan, not Jesse Govan. He's a senior and our leading scorer. We should know this.

Here's to hoping we can do it again! It won’t be easy. Seton Hall has only lost 3 games at home all year, one of which was Louisville. Granted they haven’t played Nova or Marquette at home but they are a tough out in Jersey. This game and the game at Creighton are truly the high leverage games in determining our finish this year. We really need to split this pair of road games if we want to avoid Weds night at MSG IMO. What makes this game even more important (mostly for the sanity of this board) is we won’t play again until the following weekend against Nova. That’ll be a really long layoff to be sitting on a two game losing streak, while a win and some rest leading into the Nova game could be a boost. Agree with your main point. Just note that we play Nova next Wednesday not next weekend

TBH...it wouldn't surprise me at all they beat seton hall...as a whole they're not an offensive juggernaut. I still have hope that this team is capable of winning 4-5 BE games in a row...whether its in reg season or BETourney...this team has proven it has the pieces to.

Scoring wise, we need the starters to do their job, but we really need a surprise, unexpected contribution like Moseley’s two threes vs Prov. Malinowski, where have you been? I’d love it to be Blair, knock down three or four. We know by now that Kaleb will do his job.... who else?

Hard to know what to expect from this team. It is a team that looks very good one week and then is a no show for the first half of the next game. I truly believe that they can beat almost anyone—not so certain how we beat Marquette at full strength, but everyone else, including Nova just does not seem superior. However, I can just as easily see this team losing every remaining game. I know that the future is bright, but I really want this year’s seniors to enjoy some success for their loyalty to the program through some difficult years.

Consistency will come with experience. I expect our team to have a better record next season, even with Jessie’s departure.

I think a lot of our expectations for this team have been poisoned by our experiences of the last 5 years of JT3 teams. Those teams seemed to have no fight in them and once the downward slide began it was unstoppable . This team has shown tremendous resiliency both during a game and so far during this season. They have gone down double digits in several games and always fought back. They also seemed poised to lose several road games (Butler, St Johns, Providence) and bounced back for big wins. I still have some of that JT3 bad taste in my mouth and therefore share some of my fellow posters fear of a late season collapse. But I also feel that this team is different. A win tomorrow will convince me of it.

All I can say is that I had that same feeling going into The Dunk e.g. we should win this one, but we won’t.......but we did. Times change, slowly.

Very disappointed by Saturday's loss, but luckily the guys won't have to wait too long for their next chance at a big win. A couple of observations I had re: Saturday that I would like to see addressed against SHU: 1) Not letting the officials dictate the game to us. That's 3 games in a row where we've gotten by far the short end of the stick as far as whistles go. We got on JTIII for years (and deservedly so) for not standing up to the refs and backing his players when the situation was warranted. Ewing's got to put his foot down on Wed. even it it means an early T; we cannot survive another lopsidedly officiated game on the road against a quality opponent. And we certainly can't allow the refs to continue allowing other teams to manhandle us without paying a price; I believe the Mac injury on Saturday was a direct result of the officials unevenness in calling fouls on both ends. 2) Pickett's aggressiveness. If we could bottle the first 7-8 minutes of Jamorko's game against Butler and sustain it for 40 minutes (or even a half), he'd be an all-BE player. He asserted himself as a factor on both ends, hit the glass hard and made plays on offense without the ball. We're going to need more of that if this team is going to make a run down the stretch in conference play. 3) Limiting hero ball from guys who aren't heroes. This isn't mean to be piling on, but when the problems persist they need to be brought up again and again until they are addressed. We are not going to survive Trey continuing to go iso and forcing up shots every time he touches the ball on offense. The percentage of positive plays he makes trying to make 1 on 1 post moves (or worse, forcing his way through double teams) starting more than 5 feet from the basket is exceedingly low. It sounds insane, but if senior Trey could just play with the mindset of freshman Josh (don't force anything, take what comes to you, and just be hyper aggressive without the ball), we would be far better off. I get that Jessie doesn't have the stamina to go hard for 40 minutes, but Ewing's insistence on spelling Jessie using Trey instead of Carter despite these mistakes is hard to understand. As an extra side note, this is an opportunity for our staff to demonstrate they understand the use of scouting reports and how to exploit another team's weakness. There better not be anyone helping off of Powell and Cale (esp. from 3), and there are guys on SHU that they can expect to leave open on the perimeter without fear. This not a team that can hurt us from outside at 4-5 spots. Knowing who and when to double/hedge on will be critical for this game; I hope we come out prepared and ready to execute. Agree that Ewing needs to work the refs more. I think starting with his big smile and a few joking remarks with a big arm around a shoulder would do wonders, allowing him to (literally) put his foot down in displaying displeasure (without risking a T too much) if the one-sidedness continues. Agree strongly with the observation about help D. This is a tweak that can be made, whereas there's less control that coaching staff has over, say, Jessie's intensity. Specifically, I'd like to see Mac not look to help at all. He's almost always peeking to try to get a steal/runout, but the success of this against higher-level competition has been practically nonexistent. Meanwhile, reviewing tape, it has repeatedly led to his being out of position, either resulting directly in an open three attempt or imbalancing the overall defensive scheme (failing to keep in front on a drive as he seeks to recover, a different opponent open due to one of his teammates being forced to cover, etc.). I think you get what you get with Mourning. Despite the infuriating tendency to miss close-in shots, I think he's been more effective overall as the season has progressed (not counting the one early breakout game). I just don't think his game is likely to change dramatically. I would like to see a bit more of Carter, but I have to believe there is a reason we don't. Other tweaks I think are reasonable to expect include: 1) Guiding Akinjo to stop & pop (where he has the wheels & handles to make that an open shot) vs. drive (where he might beat his player but over-commit where rotating help stops him) unless he's truly in a 1-on-1 2) Asking Jessie, upon first receiving the ball in the post, to choose between passing back out (if help is coming) and pivoting to drive (looking for the foul if the easy lay-in/dunk doesn't materialize). If the ball comes back to him with a second post entry, the fade-away can be there. I just think he'd be more comfortable with it at that point -- he certainly has shown he can hit the shot. 3) Directing ALL of the guards not to try to thread the needle to the post in half-court sets. At best, that just leads to a post man having the ball with two or three defenders on them, with chances of a turnover as they try to get the ball back to an open perimeter shooter being about equal to that of a successful pass or post move. Take a dribble or two to get a better angle or to get to the next perimeter pass without telegraphing for the steal/runout. Hoping for a happy surprise tonight to make up for the disappointment over the weekend.

Both teams still in the thick of Big East battle. Tonight is the Seton Hall vs Cancer at Prud. Ctr. And an emotional game for them. We must stop Powell, rebound the ball and need Jessie and Mac to step up big. It will be a close game, but we have to close out strong. Go Hoyas!

Face it, when we opened against Butler we thought, "well we didn't light it up in the OOC so we will probably lose this one"--and we didn't. Then we felt there was no way we could beat St Johns in the Garden--and we did. Finally, like you, I figured Providence at the Dunk would be a loss--and it wasn't. Hey, we might lose tonight but I really don't havel that JT3 agita.
